The Article

A California university and AMC think you can learn something from "The Walking Dead."

The University of California, Irvine is offering a free online course based on the network's hit zombie series.

"Society, Science, Survival: Lessons from AMC's 'The Walking Dead'" will be taught by a team of UC Irvine professors, addressing topics like the hierarchy of needs in a crisis, the physiology of stress and population modeling to predict a species' survival.

"Fans of the show know that 'The Walking Dead' is about more than zombies; it's about survival, leadership and adapting to situations that are perilous and uncertain," AMC said in a press release.

The course description says that those who enroll (if you want to sign up, go here) will "watch engaging lectures, listen to expert interviews, watch exclusive interviews with cast members talking about their characters, use key scenes from the show to illustrate course learning, read interesting articles, participate in large and small group discussions, and -- of course -- test our learning with quizzes."

The eight-week course begins on Monday, Oct. 14, the day after the show's fourth season premiere.
