Hey guys, TBSD here with (another) blog! This is the next blog in my TWC series. Today's topic- Merchandise (Part One)!
Please don't get your knickers in a twist.
First of all, I would like to apologise for the lack of a TWC blog last Saturday; mainly due to my maths teacher being a twat and giving me extra homework (Note- He has now made his way on to the twat list). I hope you all understand, enjoy the blog :D
I'm sure you all remember that ugly TV Shane figure, the one that made Bernthal look like a skinhead thug. That thing was just an indication of the slippery slope that the figures were taking.
I'll start my rant with a complaint that is driving so many of you insane; walker figures. The comic series in particular has so many characters that deserve a figure, though there are still many others in the show. I don't think i have ever met a fan, casual or fanatic, who prefers walker figures over characters. To illustrate this, I have prepared a list:
Essential comic figures
Glenn with hair
The Governor- done
Ezekiel and Shiva
Comic characters that would be nice to see
Essential TV figures
TV characters that would be nice to see
Action figures conclusion
Look at all the great characters we are missing out on! I think I can safely say that people only buy the walkers because they are part of TWD. I, and many other fans, would be far more motivated to buy the figures if they featured any of the characters listed above instead of 'notable' walkers. I can, in a way, understand the 'notable' walkers thing with the show as there are several unique ones shown; however the comics have never focused on specific walkers other than Michonne's pets and Penny. Even if we only got two main characters per set; I would rather have minor characters like Alice for the comics or milton for the show. How hard can it be to understand simple consumer logic? Very hard for experienced marketing professionals, apparently...
Minimates have done everything that the figures have failed to do. They've given us Hershel, Dexter and Alice, among others. There is a far wider range of characters in this form than in action figures, however there are two major drawbacks. One, they bear little resemblance to the characters; and two, they're ugly as fuck Lego ripoffs. Apart from the variety of characters available, I see no other reason why people would buy these things. But still, I cling to my Alice Minimate every night as I fall asleep, waiting for the unlikely release of a figure that bears actual resemblance to her.
Have any of you seen those awful plushies for the TV show. Rick and Squirrel Man in all their cartoonish glory. Of course, Well Walker has also been as AMC have a strange belief that walkers will sell as well as actual characters. Why can't we have realistic plushies instead of this cartoony crap? Why can't we have comic plushies either? I'm sure Ghost and Katie, as well as many other comic fans out their, long for a time where they can drift away to dreamland clutching an Andrea plushie (Comic Andrea, obviously...).
I will admit that I have a soft spot for these little guys. I have Rick, Michonne, Glenn, Merle, The Governor and even the Squirrel Man sitting on a shelf in my room. Unfortunately, they have also fell victim to the walker problem. However I am hoping that we will get an adorable Hershel or Tyreese statuette soon, which would drastically lower my hatred of merchandise.
Why the FUCK do they sell walkers with everything? There are so many characters that could be adapted, why give us the fucking Autopsy Walker? For fucks sake...
Next time on The Walking Complaints
TBSD complains about non-toy merchandise.
So what do you think? Would you prefer to see more characters? Is the Minimate method of releasing lots of characters instead of a select few a better idea? Do you long for a realistic plushie of your favourite character? Leave your comments below!
As many of my friends on the wiki will know, I have recently realised that one of my fellow users here is a close friend of mine. Starting with the next TWC blog, I will be presenting the mystical journey of how myself and KatieTheAndreaFan escaped the horrors of casual viewership and discovered the wonders of the comic series, through the medium of songs from Disney musicals. Today's hint- TBSD laments on how he has nothing to do with his life.
Hope to see you next time guys!
