Should Certain Pages Be Locked from Editing for the Time Being?

MTL513 March 3, 2014 User blog:MTL513

I've been noticing that tonight, after the newest episode of the TV Series aired, someone has been using the anonymous editing aspect of this site to make inaccurate, ridicuolous, and immature edits to the pages of major characters in the TV Series. (i.e., Beth became "Annoying Singing Bitch," Tara became "Lesbian," Glenn became  "Jackie Chan," Rosita became "Sexy Mexican Bitch," etc., and all of their statuses were changed from "Alive" to "Dead".) I attempted to revise said pages, only for this person to restore their distorted versions of the pages just as soon as I made the effort. And it doesn't look like they're going to give up anytime soon. So maybe it would be better if some of these pages were locked so that only trusted users of this Wiki can edit them, at least until this person decides it's not worth it anymore and decides to stop.

Believe me, I'm all for it when someone wants to add content to a page with the goal of improving it, regardless of whether or not they're logged in. But when someone intentionally adds false and derogatory information to page after page just because they can take advantage of the fact that no one can find out that it was THEM doing it, then it becomes an annoyance and a burden which needs to be addressed. Locking pages that have a history of being tampered with should probably be left in the hands of people who are trusted members of the site for a little while at least, as opposed to anyone with a computer being able to add whatever they want to them.

I don't know. Maybe I'm overreacting here, but I've seen this kind of thing happen here before, and I think it's something we need to try to get a handle on.
