Tara Chambler is a main character and survivor of the outbreak in AMC's The Walking Dead. She is the daughter of David, the younger sister of Lilly, and the aunt of Meghan. After encountering Philip Blake, better known as The Governor, she and her family left their apartment complex they had been holding up in to find a safer place. After helping Glenn Rhee escape the destroyed West Georgia Correctional Facility, she became a part of the group led by Abraham Ford on a mission to Washington, D.C., in search of a cure. She soon becomes a member of Rick Grimes' group. She is the last remaining survivor of her immediate family and the last remaining survivor of Caesar Martinez's Camp. After joining the Alexandria Safe-Zone, she formed a romantic relationship with Denise Cloyd. She later finds a community named Oceanside while on a supply run with Heath.
Tara initially came off as cold and hostile upon meeting The Governor as he made his way into her family's apartment building. She was seen exhibiting varying degrees of rude behavior towards him, even when Lilly insisted it wasn't necessary.
As her character continues to be explored, we see that Tara's hard exterior is only a facade, which she presumably puts on for reasons of self-preservation or insecurity. In later appearances, she demonstrates a more friendly, compassionate, and honest nature. She is shown to be playful at times, such as when she played a game of tag with Meghan, as well as when she expressed amusement at finding a yo-yo in a discarded bag with Glenn and Rosita.
Tara is shown to express severe guilt for her involvement in the attack on the Prison that ultimately caused its downfall, as well as the deaths of Hershel Greene and countless other residents; even though she had little to no influence on the actual fight, she still bears the brunt of responsibility by virtue of having been there at all. This guilt eventually subsides after Tara is accepted into Rick Grimes' group and receives forgiveness from him, as well as Glenn Rhee and Maggie Greene.
Throughout the fifth season, Tara shows numerous signs of developing emotional maturity and inner strength, often shown through her growing friendship with Eugene Porter. The strength and determination she exhibits later gives Eugene the courage to display those same traits, saving Tara's life after she herself is seriously wounded and rendered unconscious during a supply run for the Alexandria Safe-Zone.
By the eighth season, Tara has grown much more cold and vengeful, especially towards The Saviors, and she has a strong desire to kill them all, except for the workers and prisoners, to avenge her girlfriend, Denise Cloyd, and her friends, Glenn, Abraham Ford, and Olivia. This shows that she is perfectly willing to eliminate human threats, just like most of the rest of her group. She was particularly hostile towards Dwight, who was responsible for Denise's death, wanting to kill him despite his decision to switch sides and help them and conspiring with Daryl, who likewise wanted all of the Saviors dead regardless of whether or nor they surrendered and likewise particularly despised Dwight, to do so. She was also the only one who participated in Daryl's plot to let walkers into the Sanctuary despite knowing that innocent workers and prisoners would die if they did so, showing that like Daryl, she has allowed her hatred to blind her to what is the morally correct thing to do. However, after Dwight lures his fellow Saviors away from their location, Tara seems to soften, and remembers how she had once been one of the Governor's people, acknowledging her own hypocrisy. When she thought she had been shot with a poisoned arrow by Dwight and would die soon, she accepted this and said she thought she deserved it for the way she had behaved before, stating she may have pushed Dwight into switching sides again. After realizing he had shot her with a clean arrow and she was not dying, she seemed to finally let go of her hatred and told Daryl she would no longer aid him in his desire to kill Dwight and all the other Saviors.
Tara had aspirations to become a police officer. This was evident in her actions. She held a gun as if training, had been well underway before the "virus." She talked the talk. She may have been fresh out of the academy. She speaks of a past relationship that meant more to her than the other half. This character develops and grows as the episodes progress.
During the initial stages of the outbreak, Tara's sister Lilly, their father David, and Lilly's daughter Meghan had picked Tara up from the academy and holed up together inside of an apartment complex. For about a year, Tara continually cleared their area of walkers. However, she was unaware that she needed to destroy the brain in order to kill one.
This is the episode that introduces Tara. She is first seen with Lilly, her sister, talking to the Governor about what had happened prior to the outbreak. She explains that she was in training to become a police officer before "the crap hit the fan." We soon find out Meghan Chambler is her niece and Lilly is her sister. Later on she is seen crying next to her father, David Chambler, who was sick and had just passed away. He then turns and almost bites Tara, but the Governor saves her. Later on she is seen talking to the Governor about her father's death. She tells him she knows that those who die will turn no matter what, thus seeming to know a little more about the outbreak than we initially thought. She then fist bumps the Governor, as acknowledgment for saving her life. Tara, Lilly, and Meghan leave with the Governor, thinking he can possibly take them to a safer place and protect them. They are then swarmed by a mob of walkers and in an attempt to escape, Tara runs away and twists her ankle, but is saved by Lilly. They trudge through the forest and she is last seen standing with Lilly outside the forest, unscratched and unbitten.
Tara is first seen chatting with Alisha while Alisha is getting a cut treated by Lilly. Later, it is revealed Alisha and Tara are in a relationship, and are shown holding hands and sleeping together. Tara later tries to rescue Meghan from a rogue walker in the camp, her attempts were not very successful and the walker is put down by The Governor.
Tara is the first to agree to the Governor's plan to try and take the West Georgia Correctional Facility. She is present when Hershel Greene and Michonne are brought out in front of Rick Grimes. Rick tries to reason with Tara, asking her if this is what she wants. When the fighting begins, she ducks behind the tank and vehicles, showing that she is uncomfortable with the assault. Mitch Dolgen tells her to pick up her gun and to fight. Tara tries to reason with Alisha, telling her that they shouldn't be doing this and that The Governor decapitated Hershel. Alisha tells her to stay behind her and run into the forest if things get bad. As The Governor's militia moves into the prison, Tara runs away, leaving Alisha behind.
Tara is seen hiding in a fenced enclosure at the prison. As Glenn Rhee is leaving, he spots her in an almost catatonic state. She mentions her sister being swarmed by walkers. Glenn convinces her to accompany him. As they reach the road, Glenn asks if she has seen his wife Maggie Greene, but she hasn't. She mentions she wasn't supposed to be here, and once "Brian" killed the "old man", she knew instantly that she was on the wrong side, that she and his militia should never have trusted "Brian". Glenn asks if it was Hershel, since she describes him as an old man. She nods. She repeatedly tells Glenn how horrible she is for participating in the prison attack; Glenn responds that while he is not on good terms with her, he needs her help. She kills one walker as Glenn fights off the majority; after Glenn collapses with fatigue, she attacks the one who is about to bite him, repeatedly bashing its head in. She looks up to see Abraham Ford, Eugene Porter, and Rosita Espinosa, angrily and sarcastically asking them if they enjoyed the show.
Tara is first seen riding in Abraham's army truck. She is writing down coordinates on her hand with a marker so she knows where they're going. Walkers appear and she pulls out her gun to shoot but Abraham orders her not to and instead he attacks them with a crowbar. He is smiling and Tara said she's never seen that before. He replies saying he's the luckiest person in the world. Glenn wakes up on the back of Abraham's army truck, and Tara tells him not to move as she offers him some water. He asks where they are, she explains that she doesn't know and that he passed out after the prison. Glenn asks Tara if while driving they passed a bus. She replies yes, and then he asked her what she saw. Tara says they're all dead and it's been three hours since they've passed the bus. Glenn says they need to go back to the bus, so the two of them bang on the window from the back of Abe's army truck to stop driving. Abraham tells Glenn and Tara that they can't stop because Eugene knows the cure, shocking them both. But Glenn's only concern at this point is Maggie's whereabouts, so he decides to walk off. Tara follows him and explains that she wrote down every coordinate on her hand and she knows her way back. Tensions rise between Glenn and Abraham and they begin to fight, causing Abraham to push Tara over. She and Rosita tell them to stop fighting as Eugene notices some walkers. The four of them run back towards the truck to help Eugene fight off walkers. Glenn apologizes for the army truck and walks off, Tara gives Rosita her gun and follows Glenn. Rosita convinces Abraham and Eugene to go with them, and the five venture off. Abraham calls Tara a good person for going with Glenn and then says that saving the world is more important. She tells Abraham that she's not a good person, and questions Abraham on why he agreed to drive Eugene to Washington. Then she told him not to lie to her as they continue walking.
Tara is seen along with her group, walking the tracks on their way to Terminus. Eugene tries to strike up conversation with her, firstly by theorizing the dinosaurs could have been wiped out by the same virus that has wiped out civilization, before asking her what kind of gamer she was. Later, Glenn comes upon another Terminus sign marked by Maggie, Bob and Sasha and sprints ahead in search of them. Later, the group come upon a tower along the tracks and Abraham insists the group stops to rest, not having done so since they began their trek to Terminus. An impatient Glenn dismisses the plan and Tara is quick to agree with him. When a lone walker appears above in the tower and almost falls on top of Eugene, Tara is pushed out of the way by a protective Abraham and injures her knee. Nonetheless, she is still adamant in her support of Glenn. Rosita interjects, calling Glenn an "ass" and demands him to show more concern for Tara's well-being. The group argues, but eventually resolves to push forward.
Eventually, Tara and the group come upon a railway bridge in the mountainside. Abraham reluctantly parts company with Tara and Glenn, saying the risk is too high to Eugene and they will instead go around, telling them they'll likely be camped at the other side should they survive and make it through. Tara and Glenn enter the tunnel and find evidence of a fresh cave in, as well as many trapped walkers. Glenn insists he needs to see the faces of the walkers to ensure none of them are Maggie and Tara helps. When the two set a diversion with a flashlight to sneak around the overwhelming swarm of walkers, Tara slips and gets stuck in the debris. Glenn, refusing to leave her, is forced to empty his handgun clip into the surrounding walkers. Out of bullets, the pair are then saved by Abraham, Eugene, Rosita, Maggie, Sasha, and Bob Stookey, who have now converged and joined forces. Tara is later introduced to Maggie by Glenn, who tells his wife that he and Tara "met on the road." An appreciative Maggie gives Tara a hug of thanks. Later, with the newly formed group deciding on their next move, Tara agrees to go with Abraham to D.C. after they reach Terminus. The following day, Tara, now walking with a cane, arrives at Terminus with the others and is met by Mary, a middle aged woman who offers to get them settled and make them a plate of food.
Tara crafts a makeshift weapon to use in the escape attempt. When the group tries to break out, they fail on their first try and she is left inside. She encourages the group and is confident that they'll be able to survive their break-out. Later, when Rick opens the boxcar for everyone to escape, Tara helps kill walkers on their way out and aids in protecting the group. She is then seen for the rest of the episode accompanying the group, always at a distance. When Carol reunites she watches the group's back during their reunion.
Tara talks to Rick about her involvement in the Governor's attack, and Rick says he forgives her, noting that he could tell she did not want to be there during the prison attack and that is why he tried to talk to her. She travels with the group when they rescue Father Gabriel Stokes. The group travels to his church, and she splits off with Glenn and Maggie to collect supplies. When the group is later in the church and eating, Tara reveals to Maggie she was with the Governor and involved in the attack. Maggie forgives her and they hug.
Tara is present when Gabriel explains his survival story, and she helps carry Bob back into the church. Upon hearing of Gareth's return, Abraham demands that the group leave for Washington right away. As part of a bargain to make him stay and fight, Tara promises to go with him tomorrow regardless of what happens. She joins Rick's posse to help trap Gareth's group inside the church, and then watches as Rick, Michonne, Sasha and Abraham brutally murder the Terminus cannibals. The next day she is with the others bidding farewell to Bob before he dies from infection, and then following Abraham in the church short bus to Washington.
Tara is on the bus and suggests to Eugene he cut his hair and jokes that its his 'source of power'. Later the bus breaks down and flips over, but Tara is okay. Whilst the others swarm out the bus, Tara stays to protect Eugene and tells him it's time to 'get brave' and hands him a knife. When Tara is killing walkers, one tries to sneak up on her and Eugene protects her. When the bus starts burning Tara suggests finding some bikes because they don't burn. Later that day the group stay in a book store which they fortify. Tara scavenges water from a toilet and boils it over a fire made from book pages. She later finds Eugene watching Rosita and Abraham have sex. Tara wants to thank him for saving her life outside the bus then Eugene reveals that he sabotaged the bus. Eugene doesn't think people would keep him around if he couldn't save the world, but Tara says they will because they're friends. She tells Eugene to keep the sabotage to himself. She then takes a swift look at Rosita and Abe before going to bed.
The next morning Tara takes out walkers when they emerge from the building after Abraham moves the firetruck. When Abraham insists on going through the herd and starts to drag Eugene, Tara attempts to stop him but is pushed to the floor. She is shocked when Eugene reveals he is not a scientist, but helps him when Abraham knocks him out.
After picking up after their last appearance in 'Self Help', Tara is seen with Glenn, Maggie, and Rosita figuring out what to do about Eugene and Abraham. Later she creates the groups team name 'GREATM' which consists of each member first name in the group making up a letter in 'GREATM'. The order goes: Glenn, Rosita, Eugene, Abraham, Tara, and Maggie, making them a team or 'band of brothers', as she later mentions.
Tara is later seen, along with Glenn and Rosita, looking for fresh water where she makes fun of the lying situation, being optimistic after what happened and she mentions how Eugene lied about being a scientist because lying is his only strength so the group shouldn't put him down for it, as she stands up for him, feeling sorry for how Abraham knocked him onto the ground. While at the small river Rosita suggests to catch some fish so the group go back to where the walkers were stuck underneath the telephone pole and Tara finds a backpack, which she takes with her back to the lake.
Later, at the lakeside, she is looking through the backpack to see if she can find anything useful, where she produces a yo-yo and plays with it while the trio are on their way back to the other half of the group at the roadside, with their catch of fish from the river.
Tara is first seen along with Abraham, Eugene, Glenn, Rosita and Maggie when they arrive back to Father Gabriel's church in the fire truck where she embraces Carl upon her return. Tara and the group (along with Michonne and Gabriel) arrive at Grady Memorial Hospital too late as the rescue mission is already over and they witness Daryl carrying out the dead body of Beth Greene, which shows Tara is saddened to see Beth's death and Maggie's breakdown.
Tara appears in the funeral at the end when the group is burying Tyreese.
Tara is with the group on their long trek. When they take a break, Tara was seen sitting down with the survivors, slightly worried about Abraham purely ingesting alcohol. She partook in eating the dog meat. When it started raining, she celebrated with Rosita. She, along with the other survivors, took refuge inside the barn, and also helped her fellow survivors hold the barn doors to keep the walkers from getting inside.
Tara is present when Aaron is brought to the barn and questioned. When Abraham and his group go out to scout Aaron's vehicles, Tara and the remaining survivors do a quick sweep of the area surrounding the barn. Later, she is among those traveling in the RV towards the Alexandria Safe-Zone. When the survivors arrive, they exit their vehicles and Tara waits to enter the community. Tara is also mentioned by Michonne as she shows Rick what kind a man he is, being the one who accepted a girl from the Governor's group that destroyed the prison.
Tara enters Alexandria and is assigned the job of a runner. However on Rick's advice they all decide to stay in the same house. She goes with Noah, Glenn, Nicholas, and Aiden Monroe on a dry run. She does not approve of how they string up walkers and when they try to recapture one that gets loose she nearly gets bit when the walker turns around and attacked her, but Glenn kills it. However when Aiden becomes angry at Glenn, Tara becomes angry and disturbed by Aiden's actions and witnesses the fight between Glenn and Aiden then storms off afterwards.
Tara is tasked with looting the warehouse for parts needed to restore power to Alexandria, along with Nicholas, Aiden, Glenn, Noah and Eugene. Once at the warehouse, she engages in conversation with Eugene, calling him a coward and reminding him that he didn't bring them to Alexandria, they brought him. Once Aiden accidentally shoots a grenade on a walker, Tara is knocked unconscious by the blast and appears to suffer head trauma. Eugene is tasked with taking care of her while the rest of the survivors go out for Aiden, who had been impaled by the blast. After Aiden is killed and Noah, Glenn, and Nicholas are forced to flee, Eugene realizes this and dispatches two walkers and carries Tara to the van. Tara is seen bloodied in the back of the van with Eugene.
Tara is shown in her bed unconscious throughout the episode. Later she is shown waking with Rosita watching her.
Tara appears in this episode in a flashback. Tara is shown being tended to by Rosita, when they both see Glenn and Nicholas stagger in, bloody from their deadly fight in the woods. Tara says they both look like shit when Glenn says that they were attacked by walkers in the woods and a bullet ricocheted off a tree and hit him in the shoulder. Eugene walks in and he is overjoyed to see Tara awake, and Tara is happy to see that Eugene still has his hair and they embrace. Tara later asks if someone could bring Noah into the infirmary to see him, and everyone in the room goes silent. Tara is later seen watching Nicholas as she learns of his involvement in Noah's death. Tara asks Maggie why doesn't she have him exiled from Alexandria when Maggie says that Tara was once an enemy of Rick's group on the day The Governor murdered Maggie's father Hershel. Maggie tells Tara that Glenn saves people no matter if they were bad or good and that she is the one of the most important people to her; they both hug.
Tara is first seen in Doctor Denise infirmary with Eugene. Tara meets Denise and asks why hasn't she met her yet. Denise reveals that she was training to be a surgeon but due to her panic attacks, she leaned more to becoming a psychologist. Denise also tells Tara and Eugene that Pete Anderson didn't want Denise here but ever since his sudden death after he killed Reg, there's no surgeon left in Alexandria which forces Denise to come out to help people. Tara asks Denise if she can help Tara with a headache which Denise says Tara is her first patient and she jokingly says that she'll probably not kill her. As the wolves attack Alexandria, Tara, Eugene and Denise stay in the infirmary. Rosita, Eric and Aaron bring in an injured Holly, who has been stabbed. Tara notices Denise being reluctant to help a dying Holly. Tara orders Denise to help Holly, as she eventually does. Despite Denise's best attempt to save Holly, she dies due to blood loss. Before Tara leaves the infirmary, she quietly reminds Denise to destroy Holly's brain so she wont reanimate.
Tara first appears listening to Ricks speech to the Alexandrians. He informs everyone about the walkers gathering outside of the walls. Rick instructs everyone to be as quiet as possible explaining they will become less interested in Alexandria. Tara walks into Dr. Denise's office, where she finds Denise struggling to stabilize Scott's bullet wound. She encourages Denise to not give up hope and to keep reading so she can find out how to help Scott. After Tara leaves, Denise manages to stabilize Scott. She was doubtful she could. Later, Tara sees Denise reading on the porch. Tara asks how Scott is doing. Denise replies by saying, " He will most likely make it." Denise then kisses Tara and thanks her.
Tara is first seen on a lookout perch with Eugene.Tara notices that Spencer is using a zip-line to crawl across in his plan to lure the zombies away from Alexandria. Despite protest from Rick to save the bullets, Tara is seen helping to shoot at walkers when Spencer Monroe falls into a herd while trying to crawl across a grappling hook to the other side of a wall. Tara is relieved to see Spencer alive and despite saving Spencer, Rick scolds her for her stupidity in wasting bullets and making the herd more aggressive and she flips him off. Rick later apologizes to her when she walks by looking for Denise, accepting his apology and acknowledging what she did was stupid. Tara is later seen with Rosita who both watch in horror when they see the Alexandria tower collapse and destroy a part of the wall.
Tara is first seen helping drag Tobin to safety when the walls fall down and the herd enters Alexandria. She and Rosita then rescue Eugene and take refuge in a nearby garage, trapped in there by the walkers. Rosita is beginning to give up hope but Tara encourages her to keep going and the trio start working to escape the garage. Later on, they escape and stumble into the same room The Wolf is holding Denise captive, with Carol and Morgan unconscious on the floor. He forces them to surrender their weapons and Tara watches as The Wolf leaves the house, taking Denise with him.
Inside the townhouse, Tara insists they rescue Denise from the Alpha Wolf. Rosita points out they don’t have enough guns to fight walkers outside. Carol borrows Rosita’s gun to sweep the house. After Carol kills the wolf, she informs Tara that Denise made it safely to the infirmary, relieving Tara. She joins Carol, Rosita, Morgan and Eugene outside with the other able bodied Alexandrians killing the walkers that are apart of the herd that invaded Alexandria. After hours of fighting, she is seen with the others stanfing outside the infirmary.
Tara is first mentioned by Denise who asks Daryl to retrieve orange soda for Tara who's been talking about it in her sleep. She is later seen with Denise inside the Alexandria infirmary when Rick and Daryl bring the unconscious Paul Rovia to be left there.
Tara is first seen in the church, listening as Rick tries to convince the Alexandrians that they need to fight against the Saviors. She is seen to be uneasy at Rick’s departing line “we kill them all”, most likely reminding her of The Governor.
Back at home, Denise senses something is wrong with Tara. She tells Denise she loves her and tries to persuade her to come on a two week run with her and Heath, but Denise insists she must stay behind as she is the only doctor. She says she will tell Tara she loves her when she returns from her run and they kiss.
At the Saviors base, Tara is in a car with Gabriel, Jesus, Andy and Craig and asks Gabriel if he is still a priest. She confesses that she lied to Denise earlier, telling her she loved her when really she was just covering up the fact she had done something like this before. Jesus and Gabriel ask if she does love Denise, to which Tara says that she does. “So you know what you’re fighting for,” Jesus says.
When the alarm is activated, Tara insists on heading back to the Hilltop so that the deal is still on. Jesus sends Andy and Craig back to the Hilltop alone and heads inside to help the others while Tara and Gabriel stay outside. When two Saviors try to escape, Tara manages to kill one of them and wounds the other.
At the end of the episode, Tara says her goodbyes to the others as she and Heath head off on their run. Her whereabouts for the rest of the season are unknown.
Tara briefly appears in a dream sequence with the rest of the group at Alexandria having dinner outside.
Tara lies unconscious on a beach. Two girls approach, the younger ready to kill her. The older girl stops her from killing Tara, despite being reminded that they’re supposed to. She drags Tara’s body up the beach.
In a flashback, Tara and Heath eat in the RV at the end of a two-week scavenging mission. Heath proposes they head back to Alexandria, but Tara insists they keep scavenging for ammo and medicine. Heath laments killing the Saviors at the satellite station – he realizes everyone’s looking out for themselves and “nobody’s in this together.”
Cyndie later returns to the beach and finds Tara asleep in the hiding spot where she left her. She leaves water, fish and a spear next to Tara then walks away. Tara, who had only been pretending to sleep, follows Cyndie into the woods where she discovers a bustling village inhabited by a large group of women. Young girls run around and play. As Tara watches, hidden, the children are herded indoors and the adults begin arming themselves. As Tara looks on, one of the women turns and fires at her.
Tara flees and takes one of the women down, knocking her out. Rachel steps in front of Tara and is about to shoot her when Cyndie again intervenes. More women emerge and surround Tara, holding her at gunpoint. The leader, Natania, orders Cyndie to step away from Tara.
In a flashback, Tara and Heath cautiously move forward on a barricaded bridge blocked with cars and tarps. Tara tugs at a duffel bag lodged in a large sand pile. Heath tries to stop her, but it’s too late - the mound collapses, releasing a herd of walkers that were trapped inside. They are separated, and Heath disappears as Tara tries to fight off the walkers.
In the present, Tara sits handcuffed to a radiator. Natania walks into the room, joined by Kathy and Beatrice, and starts interrogating Tara about her background. Tara lies and says she was travelling with a friend who had worked with her on a fishing boat. She fell off a bridge after they were attacked by walkers and eventually washed up on shore. She offers to leave their settlement, but Natania worries that she knows too much.
That night over dinner, Natania invites Tara and her friend to reside at their settlement to ensure they never reveal their location to anyone. Tara observes that there are no men. Natania explains that the men were all killed in a skirmish with another group, after which the women decided to relocate their home and stay hidden. Tara confesses that she comes from a community that killed a threatening group at an old satellite station. She suggests their groups band together. Natania agrees to send a guide with Tara to find Heath and meet with her community.
The next day, Tara leaves the settlement with Kathy and Beatrice. In the woods, Tara catches on to the real plan: they are going to kill her. When a walker appears, Tara volunteers to kill it and seizes her opportunity to flee. Beatrice catches up with Tara. After a struggle, Beatrice has Tara at gunpoint. Tara pleads that she has to get back to her friends, but Beatrice tells her it’s too late, assuring Tara that her people are dead. The satellite station was only an outpost: there are more outposts, and more Saviors.
Beatrice explains that her group tried to fight the Saviors too. When the Saviors won, they lined up every man and boy over 10 and shot them in the head. Beatrice explains that rather than work for Negan, they vanished and hid. She tells Tara “we can’t let you lead them back to us,” and apologizes but before she can pull the trigger, Cyndie tackles her to the ground and tells Tara to run.
Cyndie catches up with Tara and makes her swear to keep her settlement a secret. Tara agrees. Cyndie gives her a backpack with food and water and offers to take her to where she last saw Heath. They eventually arrive at the bridge and Cyndie refuses to leave until Tara safely crosses. She makes her way across the bridge as Cyndie shoots down walkers from the top of a car. Tara looks for Heath but is unable to find him.
In a flashback, Tara is surrounded by the sand walkers when Heath suddenly lays down gunfire to save her. He runs out of bullets and becomes overrun by walkers as Tara tries to make her way over to help him, but she’s caught struggling with walkers. He insists that she go, but she refuses. “We’re in this together!” she yells, before the walkers shove her back and she tumbles over the side of the bridge.
In the present, Tara safely crosses the bridge. She finds Heath’s broken glasses and some tire tracks in the dirt. She picks up a badge that says “PPP” and puts it in her pocket.
Tara makes her way back toward Alexandria on foot. She camps out in a gift shop and eats the food that Cyndie gave her. She reaches the front gate and is met by a broken Eugene. Tara’s face falls.
Tara sits in the infirmary, despondent over the news of Denise’s death as well as the deaths of Glenn and Abraham. Determined to seek revenge on the Saviors, Rosita asks Tara if she has any leads on guns or ammo. Tara keeps her word to Cyndie and tells Rosita that she didn’t find anything during her scouting mission.
Tara approaches Olivia on the porch and hands her a canister of powdered lemonade as requested by Negan. She offers to take her place inside but Olivia declines, saying she promised to watch Judith.
Later, Tara and some of the other residents gather round as Spencer and Negan play pool in the street. She watches in horror as Negan disembowels Spencer, and is horrified when Olivia is shot in the face as punishment for Rosita trying to kill Negan. When Negan demands to know who made the bullet, Tara steps in and claims it was her. When the Saviors turn their guns on her, Eugene interjects and confesses it was him.
Tara accompanies the group as they reunite with the others at the Hilltop. Together, they all stride towards the mansion.
Tara is present when Rick tries to convince Gregory to fight against the Saviors. She tells him he should do the right thing and step up, but he cuts her off. After they leave his office, Daryl reasons they might not need a large army and if they find the right supplies they could blow them up. Tara reminds him there are civilians inside the Sanctuary. Jesus tells the group it is time they met King Ezekiel.
Tara accompanies the group to the Kingdom, where they are reunited with Morgan and meet Ezekiel. They leave the next morning when Ezekiel refuses to fight.
On their way back from the Kingdom, they encounter a blockade of cars on the highway set up by the Saviors. Tara helps to dismantle the explosives and Rosita takes some dynamite away from her, telling her she doesn’t like the way it looks.
As a herd approaches the highway, Tara, Carl and Rosita work to block the onramp again until they are surrounded. They are eventually joined by Rick and Michonne and as they head back to Alexandria, the leftover dynamite explodes behind them.
Once they are back at Alexandria, Aaron and Tobin inform them Gabriel disappeared with most of their food and weapons. Rick finds a note left from Gabriel and they head off to find him. They end up at a junkyard, where they are held at gunpoint by a large group of strangers.
Tara is present as Rick tries to make a deal with Jadis, the leader of the junkyard group. When she refuses, Tara and the group are attacked but gain the upper hand until Gabriel defuses the situation by taking Tamiel hostage. Tara watches through a tube as Rick is forced to fight a walker covered in metal armor and steel spikes. He later comes back to the group, injured but smiling, and tells them a deal has been made.
Later, Tara suggests heading back to Alexandria to regroup but Rosita says they need to search for guns. Tara reasons that Rick and Aaron are injured and the people back home need food. Rosita says she will go on her own but Tara says they are sticking together. Rosita asks what her problem is and Tara says they aren’t looking for a fight but getting ready for one. Rosita says it’s always a fight and tells her to grow up.
When Rick and Michonne discuss where they should look for guns, Rick says to Tara she’s been out further than any of them and she can tell them where not to look, and she laughs it off nervously.
Tara arrives at Rosita’s house to find her removing her stitches and says she was on her way to help her do that. After an awkward pause, Tara assures Rosita that it’s going to work out. They have the numbers, they just need the weapons. Rosita asks if she knows where they can find that many guns. Tara says no. Rosita says she can’t just wait. Tara again assures her they will find the guns and they will fight. She tells her to save her anger for the Saviors.
Tara inspects the bracelet that Cyndie gave to her. She hands the bracelet to Judith as she debates the pros and cons of telling Rick about the guns at Oceanside. She’s torn by her promise to keep its location a secret.
Tara accompanies the others in delivering the guns to Jadis and her group. She looks defeated when Jadis says it is not enough and they need nearly twice as many.
Back in Alexandria, Rick asks Tara if she’s seen Rosita, who didn’t show up for guard shift. Tara says she has something to tell Rick.
Tara reveals to Rick and the group that she encountered a group with guns while on her supply-run with Heath called Oceanside who had once fought the Saviors but lost, and are now in hiding. Realizing she needs to break her promise in order to acquire the guns and people to win the war against the Saviors, Tara leads the group of Alexandrians to the distant community. At Oceanside, Tara sneaks into Natania’s home and holds her at gunpoint.
Cyndie suddenly enters Natania’s home and Tara calls her out. She is angry and hurt that Tara broke her promise, but she says she had no choice and explains that her group is taking their guns in order to fight the Saviors. She begs them to talk to Rick and join their resistance. Natania refuses. Natania feigns an injury, distracting Tara, and giving Cyndie enough time to grab a hidden gun. Tara turns her gun towards Cyndie, and is tackled by Natania. As Cyndie holds her at gunpoint, Tara reveals that her own gun was never loaded. Natania asks for Cyndie's gun and she reluctantly complies.
As the other Oceansiders are taken captive outside by Rick and his group, Natania appears holding Tara at gunpoint. Cyndie tells her people that Rick’s group wants to fight the Saviors. Beatrice suggests they join the fight but Natania refuses to lose more people to the Saviors. When Michonne warns Rick that walkers are approaching, Cyndie knocks Natania out, saving Tara's life again. The Alexandrians and the Oceansiders organize a combined defense that allows them to efficiently kill the walkers. Natania angrily concedes, allowing Rick’s group to take their guns; but she remains adamant against fighting.
The Oceanside residents later watch the group leave with their guns. Cyndie informs Tara that Natania has forbidden her community to fight the Saviors. She thanks Tara for what her group is doing.
When the group returns to Alexandria late at night, Rosita opens the gate for them. She tells them they have a visitor. Rosita leads Rick’s group to the Alexandria prison cell where Dwight sits behind bars. Rosita says that Dwight wants to help.
In the Alexandria prison cell, Tara furiously reprimands Dwight for murdering Denise, to which he replies that she was not his intended target. In response, Daryl slams Dwight against a wall and holds him at knifepoint. Tara tells Daryl to kill him, but Dwight tells Daryl that he served Negan for Sherry's sake and Sherry had saved Daryl, but Sherry is gone now. Daryl reluctantly releases Dwight, believing his story.
When Dwight leaves to head back to the Sanctuary, Tara and Daryl exchange glances.
Later, a Scavenger watches Tara as she helps set up a blockade outside the gate.
Tara, along with the others, looks shocked as Eugene arrives with the Saviors and tells the group to surrender.
Simultaneously, the Scavengers all turn their guns on the Alexandrians. Negan emerges from a truck and taunts Rick as the Saviors open the truck that holds the explosives. She witnesses Sasha - who has died and reanimated - attack Negan and Carl uses the distraction to start shooting at the Scavengers and the Saviors. Rosita is shot during the firefight and Tara grabs her by the arm and leads her to the infirmary.
As Negan prepares to strike Carl with Lucille, Shiva leaps onto and mauls a nearby Scavenger. Ezekiel, Carol and the Kindommers arrive at the head of the Kingdom regiment in an attack, as Maggie arrives with the Hilltop fighters.
After the Saviors and the Scavengers have fled, Tara is seen sitting by Rosita's side as she recovers in bed. She also attends the funeral held for Sasha as well as the meeting of all the communities.
Tara and Carol stand watch on a bridge. Tara checks the time and notes it is "10:28" as they are waiting and Carol notices a walker spray painted on the highways railing. They spot a herd of walkers in the distance and smile. The two of them sit on the bridge and wait as the herd of walkers moves along the road below.
At the highway, Daryl meets with Carol, Tara and Morgan on his bike. Morgan is sitting, contemplating his bloody stick.
Now, it's 7:50 and Tara awaits a herd with her group of four on a highway. She counts down to their arrival but is disappointed to see they didn't arrive but the herd eventually come around the corner, they vacate the road in haste. Moments later, the SUV they parked on the exit ramp explodes. Dwight dispatches a large team of Saviors to investigate the explosion.
Daryl and Morgan rig a tripwire across a road. They join Carol and Tara on a pedestrian overpass. The four of them are carefully tracking the bombs they planted for the herd to follow. The group spots a walker nearing the tripwire. Morgan stops the walker from tripping the explosive. On the road, the Savior caravan trips the wire and sets off an explosion. The herd approaches, drawn by the explosion. Morgan and Tara get in a car, preparing to leave. Carol and Daryl are go seperate ways.
Tara is later seen with a small group of soldiers from the militia, which includes Morgan, Jesus and Dianne, as they stand outside the fence of the satellite station outpost they previously cleared out. It has since been re-settled by Saviors. Tara, Morgan, Jesus and Kingdommers are about to raid their location.
Tara is among the Hilltoppers to sneak into the Satellite Outpost that has been re-occupied by the Saviors in order to take it over. Tara, Jesus, Morgan and Diane prepare for a raid on the Satellite station. Tara claims they did it before and can do it again, Morgan says he wasn't there before. Jesus insists if a gun fires they won't get in. Jesus tells Tara to ensure no one gets the chance to do that.
Morgan bangs on the fence to attract walkers. Two Saviors head over to investigate. Diane hits them in the head with arrows almost simultaneously. Tara, Jesus, and Morgan venture inside. They use silenced pistols to put down Saviors. Diane whistles the rest of the group in. They form up outside the various inhabited rooms and await Jesus' signal to attack.
Jesus gives the signal, and the Militia soldiers burst into the rooms and begin taking out Saviors, catching them by surprise. Morgan, Freddie and Andy prepare to breach a door, but before they can do so, a Savior opens it, and they promptly gun him down. Unbeknownst to them, at least half a dozen others were behind a corner, and before they can react, Freddie and Andy are killed and Morgan is concussed.
As they sweep the station, Jesus and Tara discover a Savior named Dean cowering in a closet, having seemingly peed himself in fear. He claims to be a worker from the Sanctuary forced from his family. Jesus decides to show mercy and let him live, but Tara is furious, desiring to kill all the Saviors out of revenge for Denise. Outside the room, Dianne and the others have been pinned down by Saviors, and the gunfire provides a distraction for Dean to take Jesus hostage, revealing his deception. Before he can shoot Tara, Jesus swiftly disarms him with his skills in martial arts. Regardless, he refuses to kill Dean, instead choosing to tie him up, much to Tara's disgust, who questions Jesus on Abraham, Glenn and Denise. Over the radio, the Saviors order a retreat from the outpost, so they join the others to press the attack.
Outside, Jesus leads the rest of the fighters to the back exit of the compound, intercepting around a dozen fleeing Saviors, including Dillon, who appear to consist mostly of workers. Heavily outnumbered and outgunned, they surrender without a fight, but Tara angrily declares that even if Maggie listens to Jesus' reasoning, Rick will listen to hers. Meanwhile, Morgan continues his killing spree, before finally emerging outside. Still reeling and unbalanced, he is shocked to see the Militia taking hostages. He is shaken from his trance when he sees Jared amongst the captured Saviors. He is prevented from killing him by Jesus, who insists that they do not kill those who surrender. After a while, Morgan is struggling to accept whether they should let the Saviors live or not, Jesus is contemplating his decision, Tara is unhappy about their choice.
Tara is among the militia taking the Saviors back to the Hilltop, while riding on the back of a pickup truck with Eduardo. He tells Tara that Maggie will know what to do with them. Tara acknowledges him, believing she will kill them for what they've done. As the militia gets ambushed by on coming zombies, she helps defend their prisoners, and watches as Morgan chases after Jared and his chain gang into the woods.
Tara and Dianne arrive after Morgan and Jesus have their fight about the Savior's fate. He tells Jesus that he isn't right, but that doesn't make him wrong either. He concludes that he can't be a part of the war, and leaves on his own, but not before Tara tells him that he is right about killing the Saviors.
Tara, along with Jesus' group arrives at the Hilltop. Gregory immediately insists that they can't stay, but Maggie shuts him up and sends him away while she talks to Jesus. Tara says she agrees with Gregory that they shouldn't be allowed to stay, and Maggie notes that with families and children at the Hilltop, the arrangement would be dangerous. Jesus insists they can't kill those who surrendered, and makes plans to keep them under armed guard in two empty trailers.
Tara talks to Daryl after he returns to Alexandria. She tells him that she understands why he spared Dwight and feels he made the right choice as Dwight is the only reason they've gotten so far. However, Tara is determined to kill Dwight when its over. Daryl suggests that they will kill him together and that they won't have to wait for the war to be over. Later he and Tara get in a truck and crash into Zia’s vehical killing her. Then, Tara, Daryl, Michonne and Rosita are outside of the Sanctuary looking at the walkers with Daryl saying “finishing it”,
Tara and Daryl discuss their rogue plan with Michonne and Rosita; Morgan joins them soon after. Rosita shows doubts about the plan, concerned about the workers inside the building and the plan going awry. Daryl argues that, without the Kingdom'sforces, they do not have the numbers to force a surrender, but Rosita reminds them of Rick's proposition to the Scavengers. Tara confronts her about her apparent change in attitude towards the Scavengers, but Rosita insists she's just following Rick's plan.
Tara recounts how she had waited before telling Rick about Oceanside and their weapon cache, showing regret at the fact that she had not informed him earlier, which could have helped better their situation. She explains that she is not going to wait again and is willing to follow with Daryl's plan, with or without Rosita.
Rosita leaves, while Tara and Daryl continue their plan and Michonne insists on seeing it through. Daryl, Tara and Michonne drive the truck to the edge of the Sanctuary's perimeter as Morgan keeps watch. As Tara takes point, Daryl turns to Michonne, asking if she's prepared. Having taken Rosita's words into consideration, Michonne decides the risk is not worth it. Daryl allows her to leave.
Tara, Morgan, Daryl and the lookouts set themselves up for the breach. Several Saviors perched at the window are fired upon by Tara, Morgan and the lookouts as Daryl crashes the truck into the Sanctuary, breaching the walls and allowing the herd to pour in. Tara and Daryl retreat as the walkers begin making their way inside.
Tara is first seen with Rosita unloading some boxes. She suggests that, they take the air horn to direct the herd, Rosita with a smile on her face puts the heavy boxes on her arms. She is later seen when Negan destroys Alexandria. Tara is seen with Daryl leading a convoy, when they trap and kill all the Saviors, except Laura. Tara is then seen sitting with everyone in the sewers.
Tara remains in the sewers with the other Alexandrians as the Saviors' grenades continue to blow apart Alexandria above them. Tara listens as Dwight explains that the Saviors will soon run out of ammo and insists they stay put until the siege is over. After the explosions subside and the remaining Saviors leave, Tara says goodbye to Carl and she and the others prepare to head to the Hilltop for refuge.
Tara and the other Alexandrians evacuate through the woods towards the Hilltop. The group comes across a walker in the forest. Tara moves in to deal with it, but allows it to cross over to Dwight, claiming that it escaped her grasp. Dwight dispatches it before the group heads forward. The Alexandrians, having walked a considerable distance, rest in the forest. As Daryl and Rosita retrace their steps to cover their tracks, Tara, still vengeful, questions why Dwight is still alive. Daryl and Rosita agree that Dwight may still prove to be a valuable asset, with Rosita deciding to wait on dealing with him until they reach the Hilltop.
Tara, Daryl and Rosita look over a map at the different routes the Saviors can travel from the Sanctuary to the Hilltop, finding that most of their paths can be potentially dangerous. Dwight, however, points out that an alternate path, through a swamp is seldom used, due to the risks it poses against the Saviors. Silence falls over the group, and Tara realizes that they are considering taking the swamp route, voicing her opposition to the plan.
Tobin and Scott also question Dwight's loyalties, fearing that he could potentially turn against the Militia the same way he deserted the Saviors. He argues that while he put down his fellow survivors, one escaped, and affirms that he will not return to the Saviors, seeing that there is now a price on his head for his betrayal. He solidifies his choice to side with the Militia, accepting that whatever happens to him after Negan's fall happens. Having heard his words, Daryl agrees to traverse the swamps.
Daryl gathers volunteers to assist with clearing out the infestation. Dwight is disallowed and Tara opts to stay behind to watch the group. As the rest of the Alexandrians wait at the bank, Tara spots a small group of walkers in the trees. She asks for a volunteer to help her clear them, before tossing a knife in Dwight's direction. Picking up the knife, he and Tara head towards the zombies. Dwight swings at walkers with his knife, while Tara holds back with her handgun. As they continue forward, Dwight expresses his remorse for killing Denise, accepting that he may not be forgiven for his deed. After putting down the last zombie, Dwight turns to find Tara holding him at gunpoint. He attempts to reason with her, explaining that his choice to change sides was a sincere gesture. Tara, however, is fixated on avenging Denise, and makes several attempts to shoot Dwight, chasing him through the forest. They come to a clearing, but are interrupted by the arrival of a Savior patrol and are forced to hide in the bushes.
As the Savior patrol passes, Tara continues to hold Dwight at gunpoint. She then turns her attention towards the patrol, who are inching closer to their position. In an effort to divert their attention away, Dwight makes his presence known, explaining that he survived the ambush near Alexandria and leads them away from the swamp.
Tara is surprised by this and turns to leave and finds Rosita, having followed the pair. She asks why she didn't attempt to stop her, with Rosita explaining that she would have also pursued him to no end.
Back at the swamp, Daryl lets his rage fly, berating Tara for allowing Dwight to leave and risking him giving away their group to the Saviors. Having seen Dwight's efforts to sway the Saviors away from their location, Tara is convinced that Dwight has changed for the better. Daryl remains unconvinced, but forgoes continuing the conversation any longer, leading the Alexandrians through the now-clear waters. Tara and the Alexandrians arrive at the Hilltop gates, bearing the news of the town's downfall and the loss of Carl.
Tara is among the Alexandria residents and refugees who are prepared to defend the Hilltop from the Saviors. During the battle, Simon spots Tara and orders Dwight to hunt her down. Daryl sees Simon and Dwight sneaking up on Tara and shouts a warning, but is too late as Dwight shoots Tara in the arm with an arrow. She is removed from battle as the militia manages to drive the Saviors out.
Hilltop cleans up in the aftermath of battle. Tara and Daryl discuss Dwight shooting her. Tara tells Daryl that she was with the Governor when they first met. Daryl references his brother and says he would be with the Saviors if he were still around. Tara has been vouching for Dwight since he saved their lives, "I saw him try and help us win," she tells Daryl, but he refuses to accept her word and leaves.
Later, during the night after the reanimated residents were turned and killed, Tara sits on a bed surrounded by Enid, Rosita, and others. Tara questions how this happened. Daryl tells her that the Saviors did something to their weapons and that everyone they cut up, got shot, they all turned. Having been wounded by a Savior arrow, "Karma's a bitch", Tara says as she accepts her fate.
A day after the attack on the Hilltop, Tara meets with Daryl and she tells him she isn't sick and that Dwight shot her with a clean arrow. Tara reasons that Dwight shot her to save her life and probably couldn't break away to warn them about the coming attack though Daryl refuses to believe it. They disagree on their stances with the character. Dwight's actions cause Tara to let go of her vendetta against him.
When the Saviors are seen approaching, the Hilltoppers evacuate. Tara, worried that the wailing of Gracie will put the Saviors on their trail, stays behind to fight. Alden and the other prisoners insist on helping her. Tara and the prisoners prepare to attack. To their surprise Cyndie and the Oceansiders ambush the Saviors with Molotov cocktails, preventing a battle. Tara smiles on as they finally join the battle.
