Plot

"Eye of the Beholder"

Armed soldiers drag Madison, Travis and Alicia past dismembered corpses into a military fuel depot. Travis is carted off to a different destination than Madison and Alicia.

Soldiers bring Travis to a barrack and measure his height and weight. Travis watches as soldiers shoot a prisoner in a bathroom and write a number on his head. He’s then taken to a holding area full of people, where he sees Nick along with a wounded Luciana. Travis sidles over to Nick and quietly informs him that Madison and Alicia are also at the depot, and that they will figure out a way to escape.

Troy, the soldier in charge at the depot, enters a locked office where Madison and Alicia are being held. He offers them tea and seems hospitable, until he starts interrogating them. Madison explains to Troy that she’s looking for her son, Nick. Madison then demands to know where they’ve taken Travis. Troy avoids answering, but promises to let them go once he’s finished “processing” them. He shows particular interest in Madison.

Troy joins his soldiers in the barrack bathroom, which is being used as a secret lab for Troy’s men to test Infected resurrection times. His men select people of varying body types, health and ethnic backgrounds, to determine such variations have any effect. Troy stares into the vacant eyes of a dead body, waiting for him to turn. The Infected reanimates and the soldiers settle their bets.

In the storage room, Troy questions Travis about his connection to Madison, and his ethnicity. He’s impressed by Travis’ Maori “warrior” heritage. Travis tells Troy that Luciana is dying and requires immediate medical attention. Troy shrugs and declares that “everyone here dies", and orders Travis to sit.

Madison searches the office for a weapon. Alicia gives her a knife that she hid in her boot before they were taken prisoner. Madison tells her that she is willing to kill if necessary, but that it will be her doing the killing, not Alicia.

Meanwhile, a fellow prisoner, Steven, asks Travis to help plan an escape. Their conversation is interrupted when soldiers take them to the “lab.” Travis, Nick, Luciana, Steven and a few others sit in a line as the next victim is dragged to the wall and shot.

Madison watches over Alicia as she sleeps, planning their next move.

Steven tells Travis they can escape the depot via sewer tunnels that lead to the border. Travis agrees to help. The bored soldiers amp up their sick game by shooting two victims at once. Nick is next in line.

Troy takes notes in a journal as he watches Madison and Alicia sleep. Madison wakes up and asks Troy if Travis is dead. Troy doesn’t answer. She tells Troy that she loves Travis’ life more than her own.

Willy and his comrade bet on which corpse will turn first. Travis convinces them to shoot him next, instead of Nick, claiming that Maori don't turn. As they chain him up, he attacks Willy and throws the other soldier at a freshly turned Infected. Travis, Nick, Luciana, and Steven escape in the chaos.

Troy tells Madison that they’re getting ready to evacuate the depot. He offers to release Travis if she and Alicia travel home with him. They hear a gunshot outside. Troy runs out of the office and locks the door behind him. His men fire at Travis, Nick, Luciana, and Steven as they flee the barrack. The soldiers are gaining on them, so Travis tells Nick and Luciana to go on without him, and he stays behind.

Steven leads Nick and Luciana to a sewer grate. Nick helps Luciana down, then follows behind her. Steven is shot up by the soldiers before he can descend. Willy slits Steven’s throat, and throws his body into the sewer, ensuring that he will turn and find Nick and Luciana.

Troy orders his men, who have captured Travis, to take him to the pit around the back of the compound. Troy returns to the office and Madison attacks him with the knife, but Troy knocks the weapon out of her hand. She grabs hold of a spoon and plunges it into his eye socket. Madison tells Troy if he tries to break away he will lose his eye. Madison yells for Alicia to find Travis and a vehicle.

Alicia sprints outside and hides between parked military vehicles. She scans her surroundings, searching for where they might have taken Travis. Nick and Luciana make their way through sewer tunnels. Luciana urges Nick to leave her so that he can go on unburdened. He refuses and tells Luciana he will never leave her behind. Nick kicks down another sewer grate only to find a horde of Infected on the other side. He and Luciana flee back inside the tunnel. The horde follows.

Soldiers throw Travis inside a pit of Infected. The soldiers watch as the Infected approach Travis and bet on his chances of survival as he battles fights for his life. Using only cinder blocks, the surrounding walls and his bare fists as weapons, Travis kills all the Infected in the pit. From above, Willy tells Travis he’s impressed, then decides to up the ante. He unlocks a cell inside the pit, unleashing more Infected on him.

Madison drags Troy outside, holding the spoon in his gouged eye, as armed soldiers surround them. Troy tells the soldiers to back off. Alicia hides in a truck as the soldiers pack for the impending evacuation from the base. Jake, Troy’s brother, arrives and urges Madison to release Troy. He acknowledges that Troy probably brought this on himself, but she’s surrounded and has no where to go. Madison releases Troy who lunges for her but is subdued by Jake who demands to know where Madison’s family is. Troy admits that Travis is in the pit.

Undead Steven attacks Nick in the tunnel. Alicia hears Nick’s cries, and follows the sound to the sewer grate. She peers down and sees Nick and Luciana below. Steven is on top of Nick and about to bite him. Alicia drops her knife down and Luciana puts down the undead Stephen. However, Soldiers apprehend Alicia before she can reconnect with her brother.

Meanwhile, Troy brings Madison to the pit, where they find an exhausted Travis surrounded by brained Infected and covered in blood. He climbs out of the pit and attacks Troy, but is quickly restrained. Alicia is brought to Madison, followed by Nick and the Clark family reunites.

Later, Jake offers to take Travis, Madison, Nick, Alicia and Luciana to his family’s ranch. It’s safe there, and Jake assures them that Troy will behave. Madison and Travis reject the offer.

As the soldiers continue preparations for the evacuation, Jake finds Troy in one of the barracks and chastises him for killing innocent people. Troy insists he was conducting research and says that their father would understand. Jake informs Troy their father sent Troy here for a reason, “Cast one out to protect the many.”

Back in the lab, Willy finishes packing but stops to investigate a thumping sound coming from a vent. He opens it and rats pour out. When it seems all the rats are out, he is grabbed and bitten by an Infected, and subsequently pulled through the structurally weak wall.

Madison and Jake hear gunshots nearby. The infected Nick and Luciana encountered have emerged from the sewer and breached the barracks. The soldiers scramble to keep them back. The compound has been compromised, and chaos ensues.

Madison and Nick fight the infected, while Travis and Alicia help Luciana into a helicopter. Troy arrives in a truck and urges Madison and Nick to hop on board. The helicopter takes off with Travis, Alicia, and Luciana while Madison and Nick depart in a truck with Troy. Troy tells Madison that they’re all going to the same destination.

From the helicopter, Travis looks down and spots the truck on the road. He assures Alicia that Madison and Nick are safe.

"The New Frontier"

At night, the helicopter pilot, Charlene, navigates toward the ranch with Jake by her side. Travis and Alicia tend to Luciana in the back. Jake wonders whether or not to gain more altitude, but decides against it. Out of nowhere, a round of bullets hit the chopper.

As the chopper tries to evade the gunfire, Travis is shot. He clasps his hand over his neck, and calls for help. He then unbuckles his harness and opens the door. "Help me," Travis tells Alicia. She unbuckled and tries to stop him, insisting he's in shock, but goes silent when she sees a large hole in his side. She realizes he was shot in the stomach, and the bullet came out through his neck. Unable to do much else, her hand slips away as Travis falls out of the helicopter to his death.

Refugees clamor at the gate of the Rosarito Beach Hotel, demanding to see the doctor. Elena denies them entry, insisting that she can’t help them. Strand announces that he is a doctor and unlocks the gate. Elena and Hector are angry at Strand, but he tells them that he just saved them — the refugees would have killed them all if he didn’t let them in.

On the ground, Jake tells Alicia they must push forward to escape whoever shot the chopper down. Alicia wonders if Travis is still alive, but Jake insists Travis could not have survived the fall.

The next day, Troy blasts heavy metal music as he drives Madison and Nick to his father’s ranch. Madison keeps her guard up, still leery of Troy and his motives. Eventually the caravan pulls up to Broke Jaw Ranch. A guard tells Troy that Jake never arrived. Troy orders Madison and Nick to get out of the truck. He drives inside the gate, leaving Madison and Nick outside looking in. Nick suggests they backtrack and find the rest of their group, but Madison insists they stay put in case the helicopter arrives. She reveals to Nick that she stole a gun off the truck and tells him they can protect themselves if they have to.

At the hotel, Strand treats a child with minor wounds. As he rests, Elena urgently summons him to treat someone in dire need of a doctor. She brings Strand to the medical tent, where a woman is about to give birth. Strand insists he is not that kind of doctor, but he agrees to assist when the patient’s husband threatens him with a knife.

Nick refuses to stay at the ranch, but Madison reminds him that this is their best shot at medical treatment for Luciana. Troy’s father, Jeremiah Otto, introduces himself to Madison and Nick and orders the guard to let them in. Jeremiah shows Madison and Nick around the ranch and explains that he initially started the camp to prepare for the fall of democracy. Madison is critical of Troy, but Jeremiah defends his son’s behavior by stating that he was just carrying out his mission at the depot. Sensing Madison and Nick’s hostility, he points out that most people would be grateful to be at the ranch.

Jeremiah brings Madison and Nick to their bunkhouse and leaves them with a key. Nick grumbles about Madison being nice to Jeremiah after his son tried to kill them. Madison admits that she doesn’t have a plan yet, but they should play nice while they bide their time.

That night, Charlene takes first watch while Jake and Alicia sit by the campfire. Jake explains that Troy has had behavioral problems since he was a child. They hear a warning whistle from Charlene. Jake gives Alicia a gun, then runs off to investigate.

An Infected attacks Jake and pins him to a tree. Alicia arrives and saves Jacke by shooting the Infected vdead, then takes out two more approaching in the darkness. Jake and Alicia discover Charlene’s dead body. Jake shoots her in the head to keep her from turning.

Having delivered the baby, Strand is told by Elena that he must leave imediately, but Hector tells Strand there is another patient in need of his services before he goes. He brings Strand to Ilene’s room and asks him to convince her to eat. She has been holed up there since she stabbed Strand. She is depressed and despondent over the death of her daughter. Ilene apologizes to Strand for what she did, then asks if he will fix her broken balcony door. She needs fresh air and the door is stuck. Strand takes care of the door, telling Ilene that he now has hope for a new generation with the birth of the baby he delivered. Ilene gives Strand a box with a key inside, a wedding gift intended for her daughter and son-in-law. Ilene then jumps off the balcony to her death stating that there are no more generations.

Back at their camp, Alicia tells Jake that Luciana is unconscious. She is worried that they won’t make it back to the ranch in time to save her. They decide to carry her together. Some hours later, a ranch guard looks through his binoculars and sees Jake and Alicia carrying Luciana toward the gate.

Madison joyfully reunites with Alicia. She looks for Travis, then falls to her knees with grief upon realizing that Travis is gone. Troy predicts that Luciana will soon die and takes out his gun to put her down. Nick begs him not to shoot, but Troy explains it’s their policy to keep dying patients out of the infirmary in case they turn. Nick offers to be the one to kill Luciana and Troy hands him his gun. Nick then turns the gun on Troy and demands Luciana receive treatment. Jeremiah intervenes and agrees to treat Luciana in the infirmary if Nick hands back the gun and provided she has a pulse. Nick complies and Luciana is taken to the infirmary.

Madison grieves in private over the death of Travis. Jeremiah finds her, offers his condolences, and then gently asks her to register the gun that she stole from them. She signs out the gun in his log book.

Nick stands by Luciana’s side in the infirmary. He checks in with Alicia and holds her as she weeps over Travis’ death.

Strand finds that the key Ilene gave him operates a car in the hotel’s parking garage, and he drives off.

Madison tells Nick and Alicia that they’re going to make the ranch their home, even if that means they must take it over. Alicia objects, saying that such a thing is insane, but Madison disagrees. "It's our fate." She demands to know exactly how Travis died.

"TEOTWAWKI"

In a TV commercial from 1996, Jeremiah promotes his four-part video series on how to survive “TEOTWAWKI,” his acronym for “the end of the world as we know it.”

American democracy is about to be destroyed at the hands of foreign nationals and greedy politicians, he warns. By stockpiling for the end and learning how to defeat the “urban hordes,” Jeremiah promises that his tapes can teach anyone to survive.

Madison, Nick, and Alicia attend Charlene’s memorial at the ranch. Sensing hostility from members of the community, Madison introduces herself to the ranchers and thanks them for taking her family in.

Ranchers demand an update on the helicopter attack, and Jeremiah assures the crowd that he is looking into the incident.

In line at the mess tent, a man accuses Madison and Alicia of being freeloaders. Gretchen, a young rancher around Alicia’s age, introduces herself to Madison and Alicia, then invites Alicia to Bible study. Madison nudges Alicia to accept the invitation.

Nick takes care of Luciana at the infirmary. Luciana insists they leave the ranch as soon as she’s feeling better.

Madison finds Troy lounging in Nick’s bed in her bunkhouse. He opens up to Madison and says that he picked her, not Nick, to join his community. Madison insists Nick will earn his keep, and orders Troy to make the bed before he leaves.

Strand drives to a water depot at a dam, where he finds a long line of thirsty Tijuanans trading for water. He cuts to the front of the line and asks to speak with Dante. A guard orders him to wait in line and shoves him to the ground. Dante, Strand’s former business associate, emerges and greets Strand.

In the bunkhouse, Madison assures Nick and Alicia that they can win over the minority of people who don’t want them at the ranch. She also warns them to stay away from Troy. Nick insists they start over elsewhere, but Madison refuses to leave the relative safety of their new home.

Madison asks Jeremiah to protect her family from Troy and other hostile community members. She goes as far as threatening to expose Troy’s twisted experiments at the fuel depot. Jeremiah refuses to tell people how to behave, but offers to teach her the culture of this ranch. He asks Jake to show her his video lectures.

Jake sets Madison up to watch Jeremiah's old video tapes. He promises to protect her family from Troy. Madison tells Jake she wants to find whoever shot down the chopper. He understands her desire to know who killed Travis.

Nick asks Alicia if she wants to stay at the ranch. She reasons that the ranch is just as bad as any other place, so why not stay.

Jake orders Troy to stay away from the Clark family. He reminds Troy that he’s protecting him by hiding his psychopathic nature from others in the community.

Gretchen takes Alicia to a bunker for “Bible study.” Inside, Gretchen and her friends pass around a bong and introduce Alicia to “Geoff,” an Infected head in a cage. Alicia bursts out laughing.

Madison discovers a collection of outtakes from Jeremiah’s commercial. In the video, Jeremiah fights with his drunk wife and yells at a young Troy. She turns off the video when Jeremiah walks in the room.

Jeremiah explains that Jake and Troy are children from two different marriages. He admits that he and his second wife were alcoholics and that Troy took care of his mother towards the end of her life.

Dante and Strand trade stories over drinks. They have history from back when Strand and Thomas Abigail were doing business in Mexico. Strand tells Dante that Thomas is dead.

Alicia tells Gretchen and the other members of the "Bible study" group what life is like on the outside. She reveals that she killed a man, then admits it was an easy thing to do.

Dante leads Strand to a walkway on the dam and ambushes him. Strand watches as Dante's men push a prisoner over the edge into a pit of Infected. Dante accuses Strand of being a thief and orders his guards to throw him over the edge.

In an attempt to make himself indispensable, Strand tells Dante that people will turn against him if he keeps serving water too close to his source. He offers to help organize an off-site water depot. Dante agrees to spare his life, and in exchange, Victor will become a worker for him: “You will feel just like the people you have taken from. You will feel powerless,” he tells Strand.

Troy invites Nick on a nighttime boar hunt. Nick agrees and climbs into Troy’s truck.

Madison informs Jeremiah that Nick is an addict. Jeremiah understands, having battled his own issues with alcohol. Jeremiah offers to show Madison why he tolerates Troy.

Troy and Nick hunt boar in the darkness of night with a group of fellow ranchers.

Jeremiah takes Madison to the “pantry,” which is well-stocked with guns and supplies. He explains that he “broke” Troy in the old world, but that Troy now has a purpose in the new world. He has the killer instinct needed to survive. Madison pledges to help rebuild in Jeremiah's new world.

Troy stalks Nick around a corner, but then Nick tackles Troy and holds a gun to his face. Troy dares Nick to shoot and guesses it would take him 87 minutes to turn. Disgusted, Nick asks Troy what’s wrong with him. “I just need to know why we spoil,” Troy explains. Nick shoots the ground next to Troy’s head and lets Troy go. Then, Troy tackles him. Nick grabs Troy’s “scientific” journal, rips up the pages and laughs hysterically. Troy declares that they can now be friends.

Madison visits Luciana in the infirmary and explains that she doesn’t want to leave the ranch because Travis died trying to bring them there.

Alicia and Gretchen leave the bunker in an inebriated state. Alicia crosses paths with Jake and he smiles.

Jeremiah announces to the community that it’s been 36 hours since they dispatched a unit to investigate the chopper attack. He asks for volunteers to accompany Troy on a search mission to find their men. Madison volunteers.

At mealtime, Madison sits next to Troy instead of eating with Nick and Alicia. She lays out a napkin on Troy’s lap.

Strand sits in a cell. Someone hands him water through a window. He chugs it, then looks through the window to see that the offering was given to him by Daniel Salazar.

"100"

Daniel, covered in burns, hobbles through the streets of Tijuana skillfully avoiding the Infected. When one of the Infected notices him, he flees and hides under a car. A stray dog barks at the Infected, then runs away. The Infected follows the dog.

Daniel, who has fallen asleep under the car, awakens to the sound of a growling Infected next to the car. A stranger named Efrain kills the Infected then drags Daniel out from under the car. Efrain sees Daniel’s charred legs and warns him that he will die if he doesn’t accept his help. He offers to bring Daniel to a water source.

Efrain takes Daniel to a dry water fountain. Daniel is skeptical that the water will come, but at exactly 5 PM, water begins to flow. Daniel laps up the water. Efrain fills a jug and explains that water flows from the fountain at 5 PM every Tuesday.

Efrain loads Daniel into a rickshaw and peddles through town, expertly dodging Infected along the way. Efrain delivers water to a family. They hide as a vehicle of armed men drive by.

Unable to take the pain in his leg, Daniel passes out.

Daniel fades in and out of consciousness as Efrain and his friend, Lola, debate how to treat Daniel’s infected leg.

Daniel wakes up while Lola pulls a knife, He screams in pain as Lola scrapes charred skin off of him

After Daniel has had some time to heal, he helps Efrain scavenge for goods. Efrain stops their work to say a prayer before driving a nail into an Infected’s skull.

Daniel asks Efrain whether he used to be a priest. “I’ve been many things. But then I found my true calling,” replies Efrain, shaking his flask of alcohol.

Efrain and Daniel eat dinner at Efrain’s hideout. Daniel wants to repay Efrain for saving his life. The only thing he can offer Efrain is a proper haircut.

Daniel cuts Efrain’s hair and admits that he’s killed many people in his life. He describes escaping the fire at Abigail’s estate and confides that he is looking for his daughter, Ofelia. He worries that he may have killed her in the fire. He begs Efrain to be forgiven.

Efrain tells Daniel there’s good and bad news. The good news it there’s nobody left in the world to judge Daniel for his sins. Efrain falls asleep before he can tell Daniel the bad news.

Dismayed, Daniel leaves Efrain’s home in the middle of the night and forges out into a rain storm. An Infected attacks Daniel, and he is nearly overpowered, but he is saved when a bolt of lightning strikes the Infected. Daniel is knocked back, unconscious.

Two dam workers, Pablito and Everardo, discover Daniel while cleaning out litter from a sewage pipe. They take Daniel to Lola, who works at the dam. She immediately recognizes Daniel.

Lola explains that municipal president Dante Esquivel took over the dam after Tijuana fell. She hints at her disapproval of his water distribution system.

At the dam, Lola orders Daniel to pretend that he met her when he came begging for work. J.C., Dante’s head of security, questions Lola’s decision to hire Daniel as a new janitor. She insists she needs more janitors to help keep the water clean.

Daniel and Pablito drag dead Infected out of a sewer. Daniel sees all the people lined up outside the dam exchanging goods for water. Daniel questions Dante’s methods.

Daniel eats in the cafeteria. Everyone except Daniel stands as Dante enters the room. J.C. orders Daniel to stand and sticks his finger in Daniel’s food. Daniel stabs J.C.’s hand with a fork, prompting J.C. to pull his gun.

Dante notices the commotion and grills Daniel about his background. After hearing his accent, Dante realizes that Daniel is from El Salvador. He infers that Daniel is a “sombra negra” and was in the fearsome El Salvadoran military. Dante is impressed by Daniel’s background and welcomes him as a guest to his table.

In a private meeting, Dante asks for Daniel’s help tracking down a water thief. Daniel demands a Jeep in exchange for his help. Dante obliges.

Daniel and J.C. patrol the streets in search of the water thief. As they near Efrain’s fountain, Daniel realizes it is almost 5 PM. If they see the water flow from the fountain they will know that it was Lola’s doing. Daniel distracts J.C. from the fountain by directing him to Efrain’s hideout.

Daniel tells Lola that he led J.C. to Efrain’s hideout because J.C. was about to discover the fountain. He insists that he was protecting her. Lola nevertheless lashes out at him for betraying Efrain.

While on patrol, Daniel spots Strand looking for Dante in the water distribution line.

Daniel brings water to Strand in his cell and asks if Ofelia is alive. Strand tells him Ofelia is waiting for him at a hotel down the coast. He begs Daniel to help him escape so that they can go to Ofelia. “She’s waiting for you,” says Strand. Daniel calls Strand’s bluff: Ofelia wouldn’t be waiting for him if she believed he was dead. Daniel leaves Strand to rot in the cell.

Daniel finds Dante interrogating Efrain. Dante orders Daniel to torture Efrain until he reveals the person who helps him steal the water.

Daniel quietly advises Efrain against talking and offers to kill him quickly. He punches Efrain repeatedly and commands him to confess. As he prepares to swing a hammer at Efrain, Lola runs over and stops him, outing herself as Efrain’s accomplice.

Dante and J.C. take Efrain, Lola, Strand and Pablito to the dam catwalk for execution. Dante pushes Pablito over the edge despite his pleas of innocence.

Lola is next up to be executed, but Daniel has a different plan. He head-butts J.C., shoots him, then kills Dante.

Daniel asks Lola to be forgiven, then hands over his gun to her and kneels before her. Lola holds out her hand to Daniel.

"Burning in Water, Drowning in Flame"

Russell, an elderly resident of Broke Jaw Ranch, wakes up to find his wife, Martha, out of bed. He cautiously approaches and finds that she turned.

Martha took her false teeth out before bed, so Russell takes her hands and has a last dance with his wife. Then, he raises a gun to her temple and shoots them both through the head. A lantern topples over as their bodies hit the floor. The house is set ablaze.

Nick joins the ranchers as they fight to put out the fire. Jeremiah orders everyone to stop so they can save the water since Russell and Martha are already gone.

Nick and Alicia try to dissuade Madison from joining Troy on his mission to find the missing team that went to investigate the downed chopper. Madison ignores their advice and leaves with Troy.

Jake and Alicia flirt at breakfast. Gretchen tells Alicia that Russell was one of the ranch’s founding members, along with her father, Jeremiah, and Phil.

Nick brings breakfast to Luciana in their bunkhouse. She insists they leave the ranch and find her people. Nick hesitates, but relents and promises to leave with her once she's healthy enough to travel.

Daniel and Strand sit in Strand’s car as a herd crosses the road ahead. Strand warns Daniel to prepare himself in case Ofelia is no longer at the hotel when they arrive. Daniel’s suspicion of Strand grows, as he orders him to drive through the herd.

Alicia visits Jake at his house. They kiss. A bond begins to form between them.

Troy spots a herd on the side of the road and orders his team to kill the Infected. One of the militiamen argues that they should stick to their mission, but Madison agrees with Troy that the militia should takem out in case the horde makes it to the ranch.

Troy’s team eliminates the Infected, giving Madison a chance to prove her fighting skills to Troy’s men.

Nick visits the ruins of Russell’s home and finds a photo of Russell and Martha.

Alicia gets dressed after making love with Jake. They discuss books, and Jake offers to loan her his favorite, a Charles Bukowski novel. She explains that she used to enjoy poetry and art, but no longer sees the point of these things in this post-apocalyptic world.

Nick starts to rebuild Russell’s house. Jeremiah watches his efforts, then decides to pitch in. Among the ruins, Jeremiah comes upon Russell's gun. Jeremiah marvels at the gun and calls it a beautiful tool, but Nick is leery of the gun and all it represents.

Troy’s team arrives at the helicopter crash site only to discover that whoever shot it down dragged it away. They find shells from a gun owned by Phil and deduce that Phil engaged the assailants before retreating to his outpost.

Troy’s team drives to the outpost. On the way, Troy and Madison talk about those they lost. Madison confides that seeing the place where Travis died shook her. She wonders if Troy grieved for his mother after she died. Troy declares that dead people are dead.

At a pit stop on the way to the Rosarito Beach Hotel, Daniel asks Strand why he left the hotel. Strand explains that he wanted to broker a deal with Dante for water. Daniel doubts Strand’s story, causing Strand to lash out.

While working on Russell’s house, Jeremiah confides that Troy would have uncontrollable crying fits as a child. In the midst of one of these fits, Jeremiah's wife locked Troy in the basement. Jeremiah and his wife were drunk, and forgot about Troy until the next morning. When he finally let Troy out, Troy wasn't mad, he just apologized to his father.

Nick mentions that Luciana wants him to leave the ranch with her, but Madison wants him to stay. Jeremiah asks Nick what he wants for himself.

Troy’s group arrives at the outpost to find a pile of charred bodies. They discover Phil, partially scalped and babbling nonsensically as a crow pecks at his exposed brain. Horrified, Madison stabs Phil in the head, and insists they leave. Before the militiamen can move, a Native American man named Walker confronts them with his soldiers.

Walker declares that they attacked the outpost to take back the land that rightfully belongs to his people. Walker orders Troy’s soldiers to put down their weapons and remove their boots. Troy’s group complies after realizing they are surrounded by snipers. Walker warns them that if they don’t abandon Broke Jaw Ranch they will all die.

Jake takes Alicia to a lake and encourages her to find hope in poetry and art. He insists that there is still beauty in this world.

Daniel and Strand arrive at the hotel only to find the entrance abandoned. Strand assumes that the hotel must have been taken by the Dead. He warns Daniel not to go inside, but he insists they look for Ofelia.

Daniel and Strand enter the hotel and find blood all over the ground. Daniel rings a bell, bringing the Dead upon them. With the dead closing in, Daniel pressures Strand to tell the truth about where Ofelia is. Strand finally admits that she left the hotel while he was still there. The Infected attack Strand. Daniel drives off in the car, abandoning Strand.

Nick takes Luciana on a candlelit picnic inside the ruins of Russel’s burnt house. He talks excitedly about rebuilding the house and how beautiful it could be, but Luciana does not buy into Nick’s fantasy.

Troy’s group makes their way back toward the ranch without their shoes and weapons. Madison insists they take a break, but Troy orders his men to keep walking. When Madison challenges him, Troy pulls her aside and says she’s not his mother. Madison speculates that Troy’s mother must have hated him. As Troy reels from her words, Madison asks the team if they want to rest. Everyone raises their hands. Troy begrudgingly allows his militia to rest until dawn.

Madison wakes up in the middle of the night to find Troy holding a knife to her neck. She urges him to be a better man. He relents and withdraws the knife.

Nick wakes up to find Luciana gone.

The militia trudges down the road with bloody feet toward the ranch.

Luciana makes her way to the border.

Alicia jumps into a lake, allowing herself to feel a rush that doesn’t come from killing.

Jeremiah joins Nick at Russell’s house and gives him the revolver. He says that if Nick finishes rebuilding the house he can live there.

"Red Dirt"

Loyalty wavers at the Ranch, as news of incoming danger spreads throughout the community. Madison struggles to keep everyone together; Nick grapples with a hard truth.

At Broke Jaw Ranch, Nick and Jeremiah Otto are shooting pistols for target practice. Nick worries about Madison's long absence.

Alicia and Jake awaken in bed. Alicia also worries about Madison and the people who shot down the helicopter.

Nick spots Troy's team hobbling toward the ranch on the road to the gate.

Nick, Alicia and other ranchers rush out as Madison and Troy’s team arrive, who all have bloody feet from walking without shoes. Jeremiah requests a private debriefing, but one of the ranchers, Vernon Trimbol, insists Troy's team share their findings with everyone.

Against Troy's wishes, Mike Trimbol announces that a group of Native Americans slaughtered Phil McCarthy and the others from the outpost. Troy tries to keep everyone calm saying they can handle the situation, but Mike cracks and blurts out that they're all going to die if they don't leave.

Jeremiah, Troy, Jake and Madison discuss a course of action. Troy insists they fight Walker, but Jeremiah believes Walker is bluffing. Jake suggests they negotiate with Walker, pointing out that he beat Walker in court over past lawsuits. Madison asks if they stole Walker’s land. Jeremiah maintains that the ranch was sold to his forebears. He goes on to state that any given plot of land was stolen from someone, and the ranch is no different.

Madison rests in the bunkhouse. Nick tells her that Luciana went back south.

Alicia finds Jake using his gun for target practice.. She asks Jake for pointers on shooting. Alicia asks who will take over the ranch if something happens to Jeremiah. Jake explains that the ranch will pass to him and Troy when Jeremiah dies, but that residents will ultimately look up to whomever they deem worthy. Alicia tells Jake the ranchers would look up to him as a leader, if he stepped up.

Back at the Clark's bunkhouse, Gretchen Trimbol tells Madison that her father (Vernon) is worried about Walker, and wants to take the family to a colony in the Rockies. She says he's telling other ranchers about his plans.

Jeremiah pulls a bottle of liquor from his desk drawer. He walks outside and sees a row of fires surrounding the ranch. Ranch residents come out of their homes to watch them blaze.

The next day, Jeremiah maintains that Walker would have burned down the entire ranch if he was serious about attacking them.

The Trimbol family load supplies onto the back of a truck. Troy guards the pantry and forbids residents from leaving the ranch with supplies. The Vernons tell him that Jeremiah gave them permission to take a few items before they leave.

Vernon tells Jeremiah that he's leaving the ranch with his family to keep them safe. Madison warns Jeremiah that the ranch will be weaker if anyone leaves.

Troy runs after the Trimbol family's RV, and yells at Mike for leaving. Jake stops Troy, and they fight. Vernon drives off with his family and his horses.

Troy explains to Madison that Mike was his loyal childhood friend. Madison offers to help him ensure that no one else leaves.

Madison looks on, as Troy gathers a small militia in the pantry. He charges them with defending the ranch.

Nick returns to his newly rebuilt home to find Jeremiah drunk. Jeremiah shoots bullets into the floorboards as he alludes to a past sin, saying that there is "blood in the earth."

Alicia returns to her bunkhouse after spending the night with Jake. Madison questions Alicia about her relationship with him, but Alicia assures her that it’s nothing serious. She further mentions that they are using contraception.

Jeremiah and Nick spot one of Vernon Trimbol's horses in the pasture.

Madison, Nick and Jeremiah leave the ranch on a pickup to search for Vernon's family on the road. Madison reasons that the horse may have escaped on its own, but Jeremiah predicts that the Trimbol family is dead.

Jake packs a bag and tells Alicia that he’s going to the Black Hat Reservation to negotiate with Walker. Alicia begs him not to go, but he is determined.

Madison, Nick and Jeremiah find the Trimbols' RV in the road, riddled with bullets. They find that each member of the family is either dead or infected. They kill the infected and euthanize a partially eaten horse. As they pile bodies into their truck. Jeremiah tells Madison that he suspects Troy killed the Trimbols.

Madison, Nick and Jeremiah return to the ranch with the bodies. Madison speaks to a gathered crowd, and covers for Troy. She declares that the people who killed Travis and Phil are the same ones who killed the Trimbols. She warns that anyone who leaves the ranch will die, and urges them to stay together. The crowd murmurs in support.

Alicia packs a bag to follow Jake.

Ranchers return supplies to the pantry. Nick confronts Madison about lying to the ranch. Madison points out that even if Troy killed the Trimbols, no one would believe them. Nick agrees to keep Madison’s secret, so long as she includes him in her plans.

Madison confronts Troy about killing the Trimbols. Troy admits that he pursued them to confront Mike over abandoning him, but claims that things got out of hand. Madison tells Troy he can be the heir to the ranch, but only if he learns to control himself. She hopes Troy is up to the task of protecting the Ranch from Walker. Troy says he is.

"The Unveiling"

Jake heads through the wilderness on his way to the Black Hat Reservation, hoping to parley with Walker. He begins to hear footsteps on the trail. Jake takes cover in the brush, and pops out to confront his pursuer.

He discovers that Alicia is the one on his tail. She’s come to tell him that Walker killed the Trimbols. She warns him against talking to a killer like Walker, but Jake refuses to abandon his mission. Alicia decides to joins him.

Alicia and Jake arrive at the Black Hat Cafe. They’re surrounded by armed guards who confiscate their weapons. Walker emerges, machete in hand, and drops a severed pig’s head on the ground in front of them.

Back at the ranch, Madison informs Nick that Alicia is missing. Jeremiah remarks that Jake is gone as well. Nick offers to go after Alicia and Jake, but Jeremiah suggests he train with Troy before embarking on such a dangerous mission. Besides, Jake always comes back.

Jake and Alicia join Walker for lunch. Walker looks confused when Alicia calls him out for killing the Trimbols. Jake asks Walker to honor their prior court agreements and end the violence. Walker refuses, saying that court decisions are no longer relevant. He orders Jake to vacate Black Hat territory, but agrees to parley after their meal. Alicia is surprised to see that the woman serving their food is Ofelia.

Nick signs up for Troy’s militia, and pointedly tells Troy that he wants to protect himself from whoever killed the Trimbols. Troy gives him a gun.

Ofelia apologizes to Alicia for abandoning the group at the Rosarito Beach Hotel. She says that Walker took her in, and insists the Black Hat natives are good people. Alicia points out that Walker killed a family two nights ago, but Ofelia insists that Walker did not carry out any missions at that time. As proof, she states that Walker was with her.

Jake informs Alicia that Walker agreed to a parley. He asks Alicia to return to the ranch, so she can tell Jeremiah that Walker will refrain from further violence, in exchange for a tribute and a hostage swap. He offers to stay behind as Walker’s hostage. However, Alicia insists that Walker take her so that Jake can personally deliver the terms to Jeremiah.

Nick cuts his hair and tells Madison he’s keeping his enemies close, referring to Troy.

Jake returns to the ranch with Ofelia, his hostage. Madison yells at him for leaving Alicia with Walker, but Jake assures her that Walker will honor the hostage swap, and keep Alicia safe.

Walker proudly shows Alicia the helicopter that they shot down. Alicia tells Walker she was in the chopper when it went down, and that he killed one of her family. Walker compares her contempt for him with the hatred he feels toward the Ottos. Alicia tells him he can't know how she feels.

Jake tells Jeremiah that Walker agreed to end the violence, in exchange for bottled water. Madison worries about Alicia’s safety, but Jake reassures her that Alicia is safe.

Walker shows the skull of his great grandfather to Alicia, explaining that they had to desecrate their ancestors’ graves to save their bodies from the Ottos. He says that Black Hat relics prophesied an apocalypse that would shed the land of the impure, and return the land to his people.

Madison asks Troy to help rescue Alicia. Troy hesitates, preferring to see how Jake’s parley plays out. Madison points out that he owes her a favor for not turning the ranch against him.

Ofelia paces around the ranch pantry. Jeremiah joins her and maintains that no one wants war. He asks her not to complicate matters with “old business,” alluding to when he attacked her at the border. Ofelia agrees.

Troy, Nick and several militia soldiers sneak into Black Hat headquarters and rescue Alicia. Nick spots a guard approaching, and tackles him. Troy shoots the guard, and gunfire breaks out. Madison picks up Alicia and the rescue team with a truck.

Madison’s group returns to the ranch. Jake admonishes them for essentially declaring war on Walker’s nation. Madison admits that she convinced Troy to help save Alicia, and accuses Jake of getting played by Walker.

The next day, Jake packs water to bring to Walker. Troy worries about Jake’s safety, but Jake leaves anyway.

Alicia tells Ofelia that she doesn’t have to go back to Walker. Ofelia warns Alicia to leave the ranch.

Jake brings the water to Black Hat, and insists it was Troy’s idea to rescue Alicia. Walker is unmoved, and starts to scalp Jake. However, Ofelia stops him at the last second. Walker threatens to kill Jake and Troy in front of their father, and then burn Jeremiah alive.

A Black Hat messenger dumps Ofelia at the ranch gate. The blood and bruises on her face indicate that she was beaten.

Jeremiah, Madison, Jake and Troy question Ofelia, who claims that Walker kicked her off the reservation because he suspected her of aiding in Alicia's rescue. A guard takes her to the infirmary to treat her wounds. Madison regrets letting Ofelia return to Walker, as she promised Daniel that she would look after her.

Madison tells Ofelia she can stay at the ranch. Ofelia accepts, and offers to help in the kitchen.

Troy orders his militia to guard the perimeter for the next 48 hours.

In the bunkhouse, Alicia asks Madison how they can be sure that Walker killed the Trimbols. Madison doesn’t answer.

On the perimeter, the militia soldiers start to scream and vomit. Coop calls a medic on his walkie.

Madison and Alicia wake up to the sound of screams. They run outside. Ofelia lingers behind.

Coop tries to radio Jimmy, but Jimmy lays dead by the perimeter fence. He begins to reanimate.

Coop runs through the camp, urging people to get inside their tents. He is attacked by an infected Jimmy.

Madison, Nick and Alicia slaughter the Infected, which now overrun the camp. Nick calls out to Ofelia, who is standing in the bunkhouse doorway. Rather than respond, she runs away. Nick then falls to the ground in pain, and realize that Ofelia is responsible for the illness. Madison chases after Ofelia.

"Children of Wrath"

In a flashback, Ofelia crosses the border into the U.S. and makes her way through the desert. A spray of bullets lands around her as an unseen assailant shoots at her. She hides behind a tree, but the shooter finds her. It’s Jeremiah.

Jeremiah brings Ofelia to his truck and interrogates her. Ofelia asks for a ride, but Jeremiah says that “brown people” are not welcome at his home. She spits at him. He drives off.

Ofelia wanders through the desert and collapses, near death. She hallucinates and sees her father and Jeremiah rescuing her. Walker discovers her in this state. He gives her water and brings her to the Black Hat.

Walker examines Ofelia, bathes her and offers her food.

Back in the present, Madison chases Ofelia as she tries to escape the ranch. She punches and interrogates her for answers.

The next day, ranchers load dead bodies onto a truck. Jake and Alicia tend to the sick, which includes Nick. Madison informs everyone that Ofelia poisoned the militia’s coffee.

Madison holds Ofelia at gunpoint and forces her to drive to the Black Hat. Ofelia insists that the powder was only supposed to make the militia sick so that Walker’s people could take over the ranch without bloodshed.

Madison brings Ofelia to Walker and demands to know what the poison was. He tells her that the poison was anthrax but says that Nick will survive if he’s able-bodied. He warns that she and her family will die if they don’t leave the ranch.

Strand scavenges for food. He looks out a window and sees a sight to brighten his spirits: the Abigail, run aground.

Strand wades into the water and boards the Abigail. Infected roam throughout the boat. Strand kills all Infected with a spear gun, knife and gun.

Madison tells Jake that the poison was anthrax and that those who don’t die will be too weak to resist an attack. Jake orders Troy to gather the remaining militia, but Troy is the only one left. Madison suggests they recruit the ranchers but Jake tells her she doesn’t lead the ranch.

Jake eventually agrees with Madison’s plan to fight and instructs Troy to arm anyone who isn’t sick. Alicia suggests they try to negotiate with Walker again. Jake points out that they have no leverage to broker a deal. Alicia hatches a plan.

Strand finds a bottle of Champagne on the Abigail. He goes to the upper deck, gets out a satellite phone and uncorks the bottle.

Nick convinces Jake to uncuff him from his cot, assuring Jake that he won’t turn. As Nick goes to look for Jeremiah, Jake warns that Jeremiah has another side to him and Nick will end up disappointed.

Nick watches Jeremiah and several ranchers bury the dead in a mass grave.

Nick rips the floorboards of his adobe open.

Ofelia tells Walker that she cares about the Clark family and admonishes him for using anthrax without her knowledge. Walker maintains that she’s saving the lives of his people. They’re interrupted by a commotion outside.

The Nation rushes to extinguish a tipi fire started by Troy and a team of ranchers. As Troy’s team distracts Walker’s people, Madison and Alicia hitch the Black Hat reliquary to a truck and haul it off.

Nick digs a hole underneath the adobe floor. His shovel hits something hard.

Nick goes to Jeremiah’s house and confronts him with a skull that he found under the adobe. Jeremiah confesses that as the rivalry between the ranchers and the Black Hat escalated, the founding fathers of the ranch murdered three Hopi tribesmen, including Walker’s uncle. He says the skull belongs to Walker’s father, who Jeremiah killed when the man started to investigate his brother’s disappearance.

Madison and Alicia bring the reliquary back to the ranch. Walker follows with a host of soldiers.

Nick shows the skull to Madison and Alicia and relays the story he heard from Jeremiah. He also reveals to Alicia that Troy killed the Trimbols. Alicia accuses Madison of being heartless for standing with Troy despite the murder of Alicia’s friend. Madison declares that she’s too busy keeping everyone alive to have time for feelings.

Strand makes contact with a Russian cosmonaut who’s stuck in space. The Russian tell Strand the rest of the world is Infected.

Madison meets with Walker and offers to return the relics in exchange for peace and ownership of the ranch. She gives him the skull of his father. He rejects her terms and gives the remains back.

Madison informs her group that Walker still wants the ranch and is giving them until sundown the following day to vacate.

Strand gathers supplies then douses the Abigail in alcohol and lights it on fire. He starts to make his way north.

In the bunkhouse, Madison reveals to Nick and Alicia why she’s never taken them to her hometown in Alabama. Madison shot her alcoholic father when she was a child because he beat her mother. She resolutely insists she would do it again if it meant protecting her family.

Madison goes to Jeremiah’s house and explains to him that Walker is willing to offer peace in exchange for Jeremiah’s scalp. She puts her gun on his desk and urges him to kill himself. Making it clear he does not care about Troy and Jake, Jeremiah refuses and challenges Madison to do it instead, passing the gun to her. As Madison prepares to do so, Nick enters the room and quickly does the task instead, shooting Jeremiah in the head. Madison quickly begins to put a plan into action.

Jake and Troy run to Jeremiah’s house to find him dead, staged to look like a suicide by Madison and Nick. They remove Jeremiah’s body from the house.

Madison walks up to Jeremiah’s coffin in a barn.

Madison meets with Walker and places a backpack at his feet. He opens it and finds Jeremiah’s head inside. He nods at Madison and walks away with the head.

"Minotaur"

Madison wakes up in Jeremiah Otto Sr.’s house and rummages through the dead man's office.

Elsewhere, Nick, Troy and the militia lure Infected into an ambush.

Alicia strenuously works the water pump, but only a few drops come out.

Nick kills an Infected and gazes toward the border, thinking of Luciana.

Alicia returns to Jake’s quarters with the water she’s collected. She cleans Jake’s face with a damp cloth and frets over his slow recovery from the anthrax attack.

The militia returns to their ATVs and discusses the influx of Infected. Nick suggests they mend the fences.

Madison searches Jeremiah’s desk, his blood stain still there from the murder that took place. Some of the drawers are still locked.

Nick and Troy spot Walker’s convoy as it approaches the ranch. Jake greets the convoy and shakes Walker’s hand. The ranchers warily look on as Walker waves the convoy through the gate: The Nation has officially come to live at Broke Jaw Ranch.

Jake leads Walker into the pantry to discuss details of the Nation residing at the ranch. Troy walks out after voicing his disdain for the Nation and butting heads with Crazy Dog, Walker’s right-hand man. Jake assures Walker that, unlike Troy, most ranchers have accepted the peace deal.

Jake shows Walker the arsenal and gives him one of the two keys required to access it. He explains they can only access the arsenal when the other is present.

Nick joins Troy at Jeremiah’s grave and says that he, too, lost an alcoholic father to what was probably suicide. Troy blames Jeremiah for killing himself and leaving them with a mess.

At the dam, Lola mobilizes her group to distribute water on the street. Daniel and Efrain urge her to stay behind for her safety, but she insists on joining them.

Crazy Dog and Coop, a militiaman, check Nation warriors and ranchers for weapons at the entrance to a meeting tent. Crazy Dog tells Klah that he can’t bring his knife inside.

Alicia informs Madison that she is undermining Jake’s leadership by back-channeling with Walker. Madison denies that she’s been speaking to Walker, but Alicia doesn’t believe her.

Lola distributes water to desperate people in the streets while Daniel stays on the lookout for threats to her safety. The crowd disperses when an Infected herd approaches.

In the meeting tent, Jake urges ranchers to forgive the Nation and work toward building a future together. Walker declares that his grudge against the ranch died when Jeremiah sacrificed himself for a peace deal.

Nick visits Ofelia in the adobe. She admits to not feeling particularly guilty about killing ranchers with anthrax. She asks Nick if he feels any guilt for what he’s done.

Walker privately asks Madison if she’s prepared to handle Troy, should he become a threat. She assures him that she is.

Troy complains to Jake about the peace deal. Terrance, one of the ranchers, points out that Walker’s people killed Gretchen. Jake reminds them that Walker denied killing the Trimbols. After Jake leaves, Troy complains about the people the nation has killed. Gretchen’s death is still affecting Terrance.

Alicia finds Walker burying his father’s remains in the desert. She tells him to deal directly with Jake, not Madison.

Madison pries open a drawer in Jeremiah s desk and finds documents detailing current water levels at the ranch.

Terrance walks up to Crazy Dog and pulls a gun from his hoodie. Crazy Dog spins around knocking the gun away from him. A stray bullet hits a member of the Nation. Crazy Dog locks Terrance in a choke hold and nearly chokes him to death, but releases his victim when Walker steps in.

Alicia informs Walker that Terrance might asphyxiate from a crushed throat. Walker worries that other ranchers will follow Terrance’s example and demands the second arsenal key from Jake so that his people can arm themselves. Madison takes Walker’s side and urges Jake to let the Nation control the weapons and sweep the ranch for all remaining weapons. Jake reluctantly gives Walker the key.

Cooper and Klah knock on the Twomey family's trailer and ask to collect their weapons. Throughout the rest of the ranch, the militia and Walker’s warriors collect weapons from all the residents.

Nick tells Madison that he can handle Troy, but Madison worries that Troy will kill Nick if he finds out that Nick killed Jeremiah. Nick is not sure what reaction he will have.

Madison, Nick and Walker go to Jeremiah’s house to collect weapons from Troy. When Walker heads upstairs to check the house,Troy grabs a gun from Jeremiah’s desk ordering everyone out. Nick stands in the way of Troy, who fires a warning shot into the ceiling. Everyone clears out. Nick stays behind with Troy.

Madison promises Walker that she can fix the situation with Troy and Nick.

Inside, Troy opens a secret cache of weapons and suggests they snipe Walker’s people from upstairs. Nick urges Troy to honor Jeremiah’s self-sacrifice and stand down. Troy’s mind is made up. He hands Nick a rifle.

Madison urges Troy and Nick to disarm, but they’re interrupted by gunfire from the Nation. Troy fires back. Someone pulls Madison out of harm’s way.

Walker’s men enter Jeremiah’s home and open fire. Troy saves Nick from Crazy Dog and gets a knife through the hand in the process. Nick and Troy take cover in an upstairs bedroom. Troy prepares for his final stand.

At the dam, Lola counsels Daniel to stop looking for Ofelia. She needs him and is worried his hope will only lead to heartbreak.

Nick pleads with Troy to give up the fight. Nick finally confesses to Troy that he killed Jeremiah. Troy is stunned and aims his gun at Nick but decides not to shoot. He's broken by the news about his father. Walker’s men barge into the room.

The next day, Madison and Walker discuss punishments for Troy and Nick. Madison worries that killing Troy would only turn him into a martyr, so they agree to exile him. Madison forbids Walker from killing Nick or exiling him.

Lola and Efrain distribute water to a crowd. A man accuses them of controlling the dam for personal gain. Daniel rushes Lola to the truck as the crowd turns on them and attacks. They drive off.

Jake tells Troy the punishment that's been handed down. Troy takes the news in stride and insists that Madison is the one who takes him into exile.

Walker gives Troy provisions, a knife, a gun and one bullet, in case he doesn't want to live. A Nation warrior escorts Nick to an outhouse for imprisonment. Madison and Klah get in a truck to drive Troy into the desert.

Madison parks in the middle of the desert. Troy gets a hold of Klah’s knife and stabs Klah, wounding him. Madison aims a gun at Troy and orders him to go. He wrestles her and reveals that he knows about Nick killing Jeremiah. Madison regains control and points the gun at him.

Troy walks off into the desert alone.

"The Diviner"

Nick wilts in the hotbox. From the window slit he can see an Infected Troy walking towards him. Suddenly, Troy falls to the ground catching himself with a somersault into a grand finish. Troy is not infected. Troy unlocks the hotbox and helps Nick out. However, Nick finds himself still trapped in the box and hallucinating the whole encounter.

Madison and Walker look upon a nearly depleted reservoir. Madison tells Walker that Jeremiah was aware of the low reserves. She insists they keep the water situation a secret in order to maintain peace at the ranch. Walker suggests they buy water from a trading post in Mexicali.

Madison and Walker tell Alicia, Jake, Ofelia, and Crazy Dog that they will be gone for a couple of days to secure a backup water supply. In the meantime, they instruct them to enforce water rationing across the ranch.

Madison reveals to Alicia that they only have six weeks of water left. She urges Alicia to keep the secret and gives her a radio to stay in touch.

Madison stops by the hotbox to give water to Nick. She then departs with Walker in a water tanker.

Crazy Dog releases Nick from the hotbox. Alicia brings Nick back to Jeremiah’s house and informs him of the water rationing.

Ranchers, including Pat and Bob, complain to Jake about the rationing. Alicia scolds them and urges them to trust Jake.

Madison and Walker make camp for the night. Madison touches base with Alicia over the radio and asks about Nick. Walker tells Madison that she is overprotective.

In the middle of the night, Cooper, Blake, and Gabe visit Nick and thank him for helping Troy fight the Nation. They give Nick the last rancher-controlled gun and want to rebuild the militia to fight back.

Ranchers and Nation members line up at the well to collect their rations. Ofelia and Crazy Dog oversee the rationing. Blake tells Nick that he saw one of the Nation women double-dip at the well.

Madison and Walker drive to a large trading post at a stadium. Walker takes a canister of gold out of a box.

Madison and Walker surrender their weapons to a guard at a checkpoint. Madison reluctantly trades her radio to the teller to pay for admission into the trading post.

Madison and Walker enter the trading post. They find the outpost packed with bustling stalls and customers selling everything imaginable.

Alicia visits Ofelia and Crazy Dog at the adobe and suggests they devise a system to ensure that no one double-dips from the well. Ofelia refutes the charges of double-dipping and brings up a rumor that the militia is rebuilding.

Blake and Cooper gather ranchers to form a new militia. Nick warns them against attacking the Nation prematurely but suggests they take action if the Nation pushes any further.

Alicia admonishes Nick for harboring a gun. Nick points out that ranchers are listening to him. Alicia says they only trust him because they don’t know that he killed Jeremiah. She accuses Nick of killing Jeremiah for Madison.

Alicia tries to reach Madison over the radio but gets no response.

Madison and Walker approach Maria Lu at the trading post and ask for 10,000 gallons of water. Walker presents her with the gold and offers to give her a dozen more canisters. Maria Lu agrees.

Madison spots Strand getting roughed up by a gang of men who work for Proctor, the man who runs the trading post. She tries to help Strand. Maria Lu calls off the deal once she realizes that Madison is friends with Strand, who owes a debt to Proctor John. Madison attacks the men and flees with Strand and Walker.

Strand leads Madison and Walker to a hideout. Strand tells Madison that he plans to reconnect with a friend who controls a dam near Tijuana. They rest for the night.

The next day, Alicia catches one of the ranchers taking a second term at the well. A Nation member calls Kerry a thief. A fight breaks out. Alicia silences the crowd and reveals that they only have six weeks of water left. Mayhem ensues. Crazy Dog shoots a gun and orders the crowd to back away from the well. Nick guards the well with his gun and is joined by other ranchers including Erin and her mother. Ofelia convinces Crazy Dog to back off.

Walker follows Maria Lu around the trading post, trying to keep a low profile.

Madison catches up with Strand in the hideout. Strand, learning of Travis's death, consoles her. Proctor Nineteen and another guard barge in with Walker as their captive. Walker says the guards had threatened to kill them.

A guard tells Madison that Strand must pay off his debt to Proctor by defending the front gate from Infected while chained up. Strand urges Madison to leave him and return to Nick and Alicia.

Alicia watches over the camp as ranchers gather weapons. Through binoculars, she sees Nation members digging a new well.

Walker tells Madison that he salvaged the water deal with Maria Lu and that they will get their water in the morning.

The militia discusses strategies to overtake the Nation. Nick suggests they avoid bloodshed by simply disarming the Nation.

Proctor’s men chain Strand up outside the stadium gate. Strand grabs a hammer as a group of Infected approaches.

The next morning, Walker brings the gold to Maria Lu only to find that all the canisters are empty.

Meanwhile, Proctor's men release Strand from his chains. Madison has paid his debt.

Walker confronts Madison about using his gold to pay off Strand’s debt. She reasons that the water tanker was just a short-term solution and that Strand can lead them to a longer-term solution: a dam.

Nick and the militia sneak up to the adobe with makeshift weapons. They see Alicia digging a new well with the Nation. Coop tells Nick to remove her from harm’s way.

Inside the adobe, Ofelia, Crazy Dog, and Klah lie in wait for the militia, ready to counterattack.

Nick gives his gun to Blake and joins Alicia. Crazy Dog, Ofelia, and Klah leave their weapons behind and go outside.

Nick, Alicia, Ofelia, Crazy Dog, Klah, Cooper, Blake, Gabe, and other ranchers and Nation members all join together to dig.

"La Serpiente"

Madison, Strand and Walker drive to the dam in the water tanker. They encounter a herd of Infected. Strand throws a beeping alarm out the window to draw the mass of walkers away from the road, allowing the truck to pass unharmed.

Madison, Strand and Walker pull into a gated parking lot. Strand pushes a car aside to reveal a sewage grate. Walker does not like the idea of heading underground, but Madison reassures him this is the fastest way. The group descends into the tunnels.

Strand leads Madison and Walker through sewage tunnels but appears to lose his way. Strand tells Madison and Walker that he’s looking for a symbol that Proctor’s scouts used to mark the tunnel that leads to the dam. Walker decides to head back to the surface and leaves them.

Strand tells Madison that Daniel is at the dam but that Daniel is angry with him for misleading him on Ofelia’s whereabouts. Strand breathes a sigh of relief when Madison informs him that Ofelia is safe at the ranch. As they head down the tunnel they run into Walker who is fleeing from a group of Infected.

Strand finds the symbol and points out the pipe that leads to the dam. As they crawl to their destination, they run into an Infected blocking the way. Madison kills the Infected with a hatchet then hacks its body into pieces to unplug the pipe, but as she does so the blocked up sewage is released and gushes over them.

Daniel, Efrain and an injured Everado race down the road in a water tanker with an angry mob in pursuit. Daniel attempts to shoot at the mob, but Efrain orders him to stop.

Daniel’s group reaches the dam and shuts the gate behind them. Efrain admonishes Daniel for shooting at the crowd. Daniel sees someone emerging from a pipe: It’s Strand, Madison and Walker. Madison tells Daniel that Ofelia is alive and that Walker saved her in the desert. She tells them they’ve come for water.

Daniel takes Madison’s group to Lola’s office. They wait outside as Daniel speaks to Lola. Madison assures Walker, Daniel will help them.

Madison asks Lola for water in exchange for resources such as cattle or guns. Lola refuses to make a deal and orders Madison to leave the next morning.

Later that night, Lola asks Daniel if he’s planning to go live with Ofelia. Daniel vows to fulfill his promise to Lola by staying at the dam, he believes Ofelia is better off without him.

Walker tells Strand that he intends to kick Madison, Alicia, Nick and the ranchers off the ranch since Madison has ruined their chance to replenish the water supply.

Madison speaks privately to Lola and correctly guesses that Lola fears reprisal from her people if she gives water to “gringos.” Lola offers to let Madison and her family live and work at the dam.

Strand helps Efrain treat Everado’s wound. Efrain criticizes Daniel for attacking the people, who he believes are merely thirsty and scared. He rejects Daniel’s belief that people are plotting to overtake the dam and maintains that Lola should release the water to everyone.

Daniel thanks Walker for saving Ofelia and asks what she does at the ranch. To Daniel’s dismay, Walker tells him she is a soldier. Walker explains that she poisoned their enemies and saved many lives. “By taking others,” Daniel says.

Madison vents to Strand about her predicament. Strand asks what she wants. Madison says that she wants to keep living at the ranch.

Lola picks a neighborhood for the next water distribution run. Daniel worries that the area is too hostile, but Lola argues that giving the residents water will help avoid further resentment. Lola insists the people will eventually appreciate what she is doing, but Daniel fears he lacks the guns to protect her from those who are disgruntled. There is a clear divide between them on how the dam should be operated.

Strand carefully watches Lola’s crew prepare a tanker for the water run. Daniel senses that Strand is plotting something and offers to look the other way if his scheme benefits them both.

Walker leaves the dam and warns Madison that he is kicking out the ranchers.

Daniel tells Madison that he plans to stay at the dam to protect Lola.

Madison joins Strand at the gate to head back to the ranch. Strand tells Madison to stay away from the water tanker. Moments later it explodes, blowing open the gate. Infected flood inside. Lola’s men kill the Infected with help from Madison and Strand.

Daniel hears an angry mob approaching the breached gate. Lola still doesn’t’ believe the people would revolt against her until they see an angry mob approaching. “Down with the water queen!” they shout. Lola’s crew secures the gate just as the rioters arrive. Lola retreats.

In her office, Lola asks Daniel how many guns and munitions they will need to protect the dam. Daniel writes down a number. Madison agrees to provide them with the required armaments in exchange for 10,000 gallons of water a week until the rains come. Madison suggests they make the first trade in five days at the trading post in Mexicali. Lola also demands that Ofelia show up at the exchange.

Daniel sends off Madison and Strand in a water tanker provided by Lola. As they drive back to the ranch, Strand admits he rigged the explosion.

Madison and Strand spot Walker on the road. Walker smiles and gets inside the cab.

"Brother's Keeper"

Newly exiled Troy survives in the wasteland. He kills a rattlesnake and cooks it over a campfire. Then writes in his journal.

Troy walks to the outpost formerly manned by Phil, who was scalped by Walker. Flies buzz around Phil’s body in the chair where Walker left him dead.

Troy finds canned food in the outpost barn. He goes to the main building and retrieves a grenade launcher from a secret compartment.

He buries Phil, alone.

The next morning, Troy considers killing himself with the single bullet Walker left him. Something in the distance catches his attention. He smiles and shoots his gun into the air. The sounds of Infected begin to grow.

Nick, Crazy Dog and Coop kill Infected on the ranch perimeter. Nick says their cattle draw the Infected to the ranch. He begins killing the cows.

Jake mourns the downfall of his family legacy and suggests he and Alicia escape to a cabin near the border. She insists that they’re lucky to be living at the ranch.

Ofelia and Crazy Dog discuss ranch leadership and agree that Nick has become the de facto leader of the ranchers.

Nick tells Alicia that he feels conflicted about killing Otto and that he’s worried about Madison and Troy. Alicia realizes that Nick is beginning to identify with Troy.

Nick wakes up in the middle of the night and finds Troy in the house. Troy tells Nick that there’s a “reckoning at hand” and warns that the entire ranch is about to be destroyed. He locks Nick on the balcony and says that he wants Jake to witness the reckoning. Nick escapes the balcony, but Troy has already left.

Jake tells Alicia that they may not be able to maintain the water supply, despite Madison’s efforts. When Alicia refuses to run away with him, he accuses her of sleeping with him to help her family take leadership of the ranch. Alicia, surprised and angry, denies the accusation.

Nick arrives and informs Jake and Alicia that Troy came to the ranch to warn them that something was about to happen. Jake guesses that Troy went to Phil’s outpost. He heads out to find his brother, joined by Nick. Alicia gives Jake a walkie.

On the road, Nick tells Jake that Troy might be trying to warn them of danger, not harm them. Jake disagrees and says that Troy is sick and he won’t get better. They are alarmed when they spot an enormous dust cloud in the distance.

Nick and Jake get out of the truck. Nick radios Alicia and warns her about the massive horde of Infected approaching the ranch. Jake points out that they still have time to draw the horde away from the ranch. A grenade explodes nearby. The noise draws the horde toward the ranch, foiling Jake’s plan. They see Troy with the grenade launcher.

Alicia tells Ofelia that Nick and Jake spotted a horde. When Ofelia prods, she admits that Troy came to the ranch to warn them.

Nick tries to dissuade Troy from firing another grenade. Troy explains that he’s been leading the horde on foot for two days. Jake levels his gun at Troy and orders him to drop the grenade launcher. Instead, Troy shoots. Jake tackles him.

Everyone at the ranch hears the grenade explode.

Jake punches Troy and tells Nick to evacuate their home. Troy reveals to Jake that Nick killed Otto and proposes that he and Jake commit suicide together. Nick knocks Jake down before he can shoot Troy. Jake rolls down a hill.

Alicia, Ofelia, Crazy Dog and Coop spot the horde approaching the ranch. They decide to stay and defend the place rather than flee.

An Infected attacks Jake and bites him. Nick hacks off Jake’s arm to prevent infection.

Alicia, Ofelia, Coop and Crazy Dog meet in the pantry. Coop points out that everyone should have guns to fight the Infected. Crazy Dog reluctantly hands the armory keys to Ofelia so that everyone can arm themselves.

Troy cradles Jake as Nick drives the truck back toward the ranch. The horde closes in.

Alicia and Crazy Dog create a blockade of RVs inside the ranch. As the horde approaches, the ranchers hide behind the blockade.

The horde arrives at the gate and breaks through it.

Nick watches the ranch through binoculars.

The RVs begin to shake as the horde passes on the other side. Ranchers and Nation members kill Infected as they crawl underneath the RVs.

Troy sits beside Jake’s dead body. Nick orders Troy to kill Jake before he turns. Troy tells Nick that he only wanted Jake to see what he did for them. Nick grabs Troy and forces him to look at the destruction he brought to the ranch. He tries to radio Alicia but gets no response. Troy asks Nick to kill him. Nick dismissively gives him a gun and tells Troy to do it himself.

Infected try to squeeze in between the RVs. The RVs start to topple over. Alicia orders everyone to flee to the pantry.

Nick watches helplessly as the RV blockade goes down.

The horde attacks ranchers and Nation members as Alicia, Coop and Ofelia fight them off. Ofelia urges Alicia to lead everyone to the pantry. Coop is caught and devoured by the Infected. He tries to shoot himself in the head but runs out of bullets. Alicia shoots him with her gun.

Jake begins to turn. Troy holds him down.

Alicia, Ofelia and Crazy Dog fight off Infected and make their way into the pantry. Blake shuts the doors behind them.

Troy stabs Jake through the head. “I need some sleep,” he realizes. Nick says they must try and save everyone. He looks down at the ranch and sees it’s completely overrun with Infected.

The survivors hide in the pantry as the horde pounds on the doors.

"This Land Is Your Land"

In the pantry, Alicia spots Blake stealthily examining a bite wound on his stomach.

Ofelia informs Alicia that the pantry's air vent is broken. They realize they will run out of air if they don’t fix the fan.

Troy begins digging a grave for Jake. Nick orders him to stop and help save the ranch.

Blake estimates it will take at least an hour each way to crawl through the air shaft and clear the blocked fan. Alicia calculates that they have two hours before the carbon dioxide kills everyone in the pantry. She suggests they reduce the amount of carbon dioxide by killing bitten survivors. Crazy Dog insists on strip-searching the terrified ranchers and Nation members to find out who has been bitten, but Ofelia and Alicia worry that the people won’t react well to force.

Alicia calmly announces that the air vent is broken and asks bitten people to step forward to help conserve air. No one volunteers. Finally, Blake reveals his wound, prompting more people to step forward.

Nick and Troy devise a plan to direct the herd away from the pantry by blowing up the fuel reserve. They get in the truck and head toward the ranch.

Ofelia and Crazy Dog climb into the air shaft.

Alicia and Blake inform the bitten survivors that they will administer a large dose of morphine to knock the bitten unconscious, then stab them with a knife to prevent them from turning. The bitten survivors start to rethink their decision. Christine, one of the ranchers, insists that morphine will ease their death. A Nation resident offers to go first.

The Nation resident lies on the floor. With Blake’s help, Alicia injects morphine into his arm then drives a knife through his head.

Alicia leaves the room and cries. Christine urges her to remain calm for the sake of the victims.

Outside, Nick fires a grenade to lure walkers away from their path to the fuel. He and Troy race toward the fuel reserve in their truck but crash into an RV, attracting walkers. They run to the chopper and get inside. Troy laughs maniacally as walkers surround the helicopter.

Blake tells Alicia it’s time for his own death. He cries and apologizes for all the people he killed with Troy. Alicia injects him with morphine.

Alicia returns to the main room. Everyone stares at her in silence.

Ofelia and Crazy Dog crawl through the shaft. Ofelia tells Crazy Dog to turn feet first so that they can lower themselves down a drop. Crazy Dog gets stuck and starts to hyperventilate.

Alicia and Christine rest in the pantry. Christine tells Alicia that she regrets hiding from the world on the ranch during her last years prior to the apocalypse. She urges Alicia never to make decisions based on fear.

Crazy Dog explains to Ofelia that he has suffered from PTSD ever since fighting in Iraq. They take a few moments for Crazy Dog to recuperate.

Alicia and Christine share some of their favorite memories. Alicia describes a memory about Nick and says that she used to look up to Nick. She starts to nod off then realizes that Christine and everyone else in the pantry is either unconscious or dead. The air has nearly run out.

Nick turns on the helicopter rotors. Walkers break through the glass.

Alicia wakes up and sees a walker eating a corpse. The walker attacks her; Alicia stabs the walker and then passes out. More survivors start to turn after she passes out.

Ofelia and Crazy Dog arrive at the fan and find a walker lodged in the blades. Crazy Dog hoists Ofelia up so that she can kill the walker. Crazy Dog passes out. They all fall to the ground. Ofelia shoots the walker. The fan starts whirring, pushing air through the shaft and into the pantry.

Alicia wakes up and starts fighting walkers, drags Christine’s body into the armory and closes the gate. She grabs a gun and starts firing at walkers

Troy offers Nick a gun to kill himself as walkers overrun the chopper. They’re interrupted by a loud blast.

Alicia hears the explosion. She continues shooting walkers then starts killing them with her knife when she runs out of ammo. The doors open. Madison runs in with Strand, Walker, Nick and Troy. Alicia stabs Christine in the head.

Alicia catches up on sleep in the water tanker.

Madison gazes upon the decimated ranch. She tells Nick that they are driving to the trading post and then to the dam.

Madison reveals to Ofelia that Daniel is alive. Ofelia cries.

Nick informs Alicia that Jake is dead. Alicia asks where the horde came from. Nick covers for Troy and says that Troy spotted the mass of walkers but was too late in warning them.

Alicia tells Madison that she wants to find a way to live for herself that doesn't involve running from place to place in fear. She reveals a plan to live alone in the cabin that Jake told her about.

Alicia leaves in a truck. Nick tells Madison he will meet her at the dam after he follows Alicia to make sure she reaches her destination safely. Madison tells him to take Troy.

Alicia drives across the plain. Nick and Troy follow her at a distance. Madison’s group leaves in the oil tanker.

"El Matadero"

Madison, Strand and Walker drive a tanker to the trading outpost to meet with Lola and Daniel. Strand worries that things might go south when they show up to the trade empty-handed. Madison argues that they at least have Ofelia.

Ofelia and Crazy Dog ride on the back of the tanker. Ofelia grows weak and falls off of her perch. Madison checks on Ofelia and spots a bite wound. Ofelia asks for Madison’s word that she will take her to see Daniel. Madison promises.

Alicia eats dinner inside an abandoned building. She hears a car and readies her rifle. It’s Nick and Troy.

Nick tries to convince Alicia to rejoin the group, promising safety in numbers. Alicia points out that she nearly died in the pantry while surrounded by people.

Madison’s group arrives at the outpost a day early. Strand tells Madison that the outpost guards will kill Ofelia if they think she’s sick, but Madison insists they must enter to get Ofelia a bed and medicine.

Madison’s group hands over their weapons at the checkpoint. Ofelia steadies herself, and a guard waves her through. Madison sells part of their rifle stash to pay for entry.

Madison sets up Ofelia inside a room then goes to find painkillers. Walker stands guard over Ofelia.

Strand tells Madison that they’re wasting resources on Ofelia but agrees to see how things play out with Daniel.

Nick says goodbye to Alicia and gives her a map.

Nick and Troy drive to the outpost. Troy tells Nick that they’re more alike than Nick thinks.

Madison gives some Vicodin to Ofelia. As Ofelia sleeps, Walker tells Madison that she’s doing the right thing by honoring Ofelia’s request to see her father one last time.

Alicia scavenges for food inside a burger joint. She procures a tub of potatoes from the kitchen but hides in the playground ball pit when she sees a herd of walkers heading toward the restaurant. A walker attacks Alicia from within the pit. Alicia stabs her through the head and again hides in the ball pit. The walkers enter the restaurant. A woman strides in and slaughters the herd with a pickaxe. She severs their fingers, pulls their teeth and walks off with the potatoes.

Nick finds Madison sleeping by Ofelia’s side. He watches over Ofelia while Madison takes a break. He stares at the Vicodin pills and pops one in his mouth.

Alicia spots the woman’s car in a supermarket parking lot. She reaches inside to steal the potatoes. The woman, Diana, shows up and threatens to kill her. Alicia threatens to shoot up Diana’s gas tank then proposes they instead share the potatoes.

At the outpost cafeteria, Nick joins Troy at a table and orders tequila. Nick asks the waitress where they can find the slaughter yard. Nick pops another pill and downs the tequila. Troy joins him.

Guards capture Strand as he sneaks around the outpost. Strand demands to see Proctor John and says he has something that John will want.

Madison wakes Ofelia to meet Daniel. She suggests Walker stay behind.

Madison helps Ofelia walk to the parking lot. Ofelia asks Madison to tell Daniel that she was looking forward to getting to know him, dying soon after. Daniel arrives and goes straight to Ofelia. He cries and pulls a gun on Madison when he sees that Ofelia is dead. Madison explains what happened. Daniel sends her away and shoots Ofelia.

Nick and Troy walk around the outpost in a haze. Nick asks for directions to the slaughter yard.

Nick and Troy enter the slaughter yard, which is functioning as a drug den. A man offers an assortment of drugs, but Nick wants uppers. The man places mysterious animal glands in two shot glasses. Troy starts to leave in disgust, but Nick eats the gland. Troy caves in and eats his.

Alicia and Diana eat the potatoes inside an abandoned store. Diana explains that she sells the fingers and teeth to Mexicans at the outpost. Alicia tells Diana that she’s traveling alone to a place in the desert. Diana warns her that every town has been picked clean and declares that she doesn’t keep company.

Nick and Troy roam the streets in the middle of the night and encounter a herd. Nick smears his face in walker blood and instructs Troy to do the same. To Troy’s amazement, the herd walks right by them.

Madison cleans up Ofelia’s room and realizes that Nick took some of the Vicodin. Daniel stops by and informs her that she can still come to the dam, along with Strand, Walker, and the others.

Alicia wakes up and finds Diana fixing her car outside. A herd approaches. They decide to take on the herd together.

Madison prepares to return to the dam. Nick informs her that he and Troy will stay at the outpost to secure a toehold for future trading. Knowing that Nick has ulterior motives for staying, Madison simply tells him that he knows where to find her.

"Things Bad Begun"

Nick slaughters Infected in the streets and collects their heads in a shopping cart.

Nick sells the heads to El Matarife, who removes the locus coeruleus glands from each head to sell to the Proctors.

The Proctors ingest the harvested organs to help them fight longer and harder. He mentions that the Proctors are gearing up for something big.

Troy sees the Proctors mobilizing and asks one of the men what’s happening.

Troy tracks down Nick at a bar and tells him that Madison is in trouble.

Strand joins Madison at the dam and tries to comfort her about Alicia and Nick's departures. He offers her some scotch.

Alicia and Diana drive to the trading post to sell Infected body parts. Bandits crash into their car and try to steal their goods. Alicia and Diana fight them. Alicia scares them off with a rifle and finds Diana with a broken leg.

Walker gives Ofelia’s rosary to Daniel. They both express a desire to know what happened in the final hours at the ranch.

Madison and Strand drink heavily together.

Strand tells Madison that he’s never killed a living person. Madison says that it’s just a matter of time. Daniel informs Madison that Nick has arrived at the dam.

Nick and Troy relay what they learned at the Bazar to Madison, Strand, Daniel, Lola and Efrain: The Proctors are planning to raid the dam.

Efrain proposes using C-4 explosives to blow up the dam and release the water to the people. Daniel suggests they post guards at the dam’s entryways and use the explosives as a bargaining chip, threatening to blow up the dam if the Proctors don’t negotiate with them. Strand urges Madison to leave with Nick, but Madison insists on staying to help. Troy volunteers to help set up the explosives.

Nick insists Madison leave the dam before the Proctors show up. She admonishes Nick for using again and orders him to eat some food.

Walker and Crazy Dog pack their bags. Walker informs Madison that they’re heading north to search for members of their tribe. Madison shakes their hands.

Alicia stands by Diana’s side as a doctor, Eddie, sets her leg in a cast. Eddie commends Alicia’s medical skills and asks for her assistance in an upcoming surgery.

Nick forces Strand to confess that he made a deal with Proctor John to facilitate a takeover of the dam in exchange for a role as steward of the dam. Strand explains that Proctor John agreed to spare Madison and Nick as part of the deal but worries that once Daniel and Lola resist the attack, the deal will no longer be honored by the Proctors.

Daniel corners Nick and demands to know how the horde found the ranch. Nick insists he and Troy tried to redirect the Infected after spotting them on the outskirts. Daniel senses Nick is lying and locks the door to the room.

Madison and Troy set up explosives under the dam. Madison thanks Troy for looking after Nick. Troy switches on the receiver and hands it to Madison.

Daniel interrogates Nick and again demands to know who led the horde to the ranch. Nick covers for Troy.

Eddie introduces Alicia to Proctor John, who is bound to a wheelchair. Proctor John details his plan to expand his drug empire but explains that the growth on his spine, which causes paralysis, has hindered his plans. He orders Alicia to assist Eddie, who will be operating to remove the growth. He warns her that his brothers will kill everyone in the room if the surgery fails.

Daniel continues to interrogate Nick. Nick finally says that Jake led the herd to the ranch after learning that Nick killed his father. Daniel releases Nick.

Eddie begins the surgery and slices into Proctor John’s back. Alicia distracts Proctor John by holding his hand and asking about his family. Proctor John screams.

Daniel notices dam water pumping in the wrong direction. Strand assures him that Lola has it under control.

Nick tells Madison and Troy that Strand sold them out to the Proctors. Madison insists on warning Daniel and Lola, but Nick says that Daniel will kill Troy if he sees him. Madison presses Nick for an explanation. Troy admits that he led the horde to the ranch. Madison punches Troy and fatally slams his head with a hammer. She takes the detonator.

Eddie finishes the surgery. Alicia breathes a sigh of relief when Proctor John demonstrates movement in his toes. A soldier informs Proctor John that his men are about to enter the tunnel pipes. Proctor John orders Alicia to join his crew.

Daniel and Lola rush to the pump room to determine why the dam water is flowing the wrong way. Strand holds them at gunpoint and reveals his deal with the Proctors. Daniel lunges at Strand and gets shot in the chin while trying to grab the gun. Lola helps Daniel to his feet.

The Proctors infiltrate the dam through the unguarded tunnels. Daniel’s men ambush the Proctors. Gunfire breaks out, killing Efrain. A Proctor brother confronts Strand about the ambush. Strand assures him that Lola and Daniel are dead.

Strand brings Madison and Nick to a remote room and promises to try and keep them safe. He takes the detonator, locks their door and leaves.

"Sleigh Ride"

In a fantasy, Madison cooks a Christmas turkey in Jeremiah’s house. She sees a truck approaching the house.

Madison steps outside and joins Nick and Luciana in a cemetery. Luciana holds a baby in her arms. Madison sees Alicia’s name on a grave. She tries to follow Nick and Luciana, but they ignore her and drive off.

In reality, Proctor John rides a Zodiac toward the dam with Alicia and his men. They see bodies floating in the water. Strand greets them at the dock and exchanges quick glances with Alicia. John admonishes Strand for the unanticipated resistance from dam guards.

Strand quietly assures Alicia that Madison and Nick are alive and in hiding. He vows to help them escape if she agrees to work with him.

In the locked room, Nick criticizes Madison for killing Troy. He accuses her of secretly wishing he had died during the darker days of his addiction. Madison swears that she never wanted her son dead. Someone knocks on the door as gunfire erupts outside.

Lola applies pressure to Daniel’s gunshot wound and marvels that he’s still alive. She leaves him in an underground room while she goes to find Efrain.

Alicia changes John’s surgery dressing. John asks how she knows Strand. Alicia admits that Strand helped her family escape L.A. and that Strand and her mother are friends. She asks John to spare Madison. He agrees on the condition that Alicia comes to Houston with him and his crew. She agrees.

Strand checks in on Madison and Nick. Madison holds him at gunpoint but releases him when he reveals that Alicia is at the dam with John. He instructs Madison and Nick to change into worker uniforms so that he can sneak them out. He admits that he shot Daniel but didn’t kill him. Without other options, Madison and Nick reluctantly acquiesce to his plan.

Lola finds Efrain dead in her office and cries. She sees Strand in a security camera feed and strides out of the office with a gun.

Strand walks Madison and Nick across a bridge on top of the dam. John’s men kill Lola’s guards and throw them over the bridge. Strand tells John’s men that their boss asked him to kill Madison and Nick personally.

The escape is short-lived as Lola attacks the group and guns down several of John’s men. John shoots her dead and discovers Strand trying to smuggle Madison and Nick.

Daniel wakes up in the underground room.

Alicia reunites with Madison. One of John’s men recognizes Nick from the trading post and recalls that he was with another man. John decides to kill Nick, who he deems untrustworthy, and must therefore also kill Madison and Alicia, knowing they'll seek revenge for Nick's murder.

Madison, Nick and Alicia walk across the dam bridge together. Nick hugs Strand goodbye then gets in position for his execution. Strand tells John that the dam is rigged with explosives and reaches into his pocket to pull out the detonator, but comes up empty. Nick reveals that he took the detonator while hugging Strand.

In the Christmas fantasy, Madison serves turkey to Daniel, Jeremiah, Troy, Jake, Coop and Walker, who are all dressed up. Strand arrives with a stack of presents. Madison removes the lid off the turkey platter and sees Jeremiah's head. Walker chops off Jake’s arm. Blood covers the table. Strand leaves the party. Madison follows Strand outside and finds a cemetery.

Back at the dam, Nick threatens to detonate the explosives unless John allows Madison, Alicia and Strand to escape. Alicia urges Nick to come with them, but John points out that Nick cannot leave the detonator’s range. Nick calls the negotiations his “suicide note.” John agrees to his conditions.

Strand, Madison and Alicia run from the dam.

Daniel, still alive, attacks three of John’s men and procures a gun.

Strand, Madison and Alicia reach the Zodiac and launch into the water. Meanwhile, John tries to convince Nick to join him. Nick refuses.

The Zodiac motor dies. John realizes that Nick cannot detonate the explosives until his family is out of range of the explosion. His men close in on Nick.

Daniel finds Lola’s body on the bridge. He puts Ofelia’s rosary in Lola’s hand and strides forward.

Strand, Madison and Alicia fix the motor and power ahead.

As the Proctors close in on Nick, a shot rings out. Walker and Crazy Dog snipe at John’s men from a distance, killing Proctor Nine first.

John accuses Nick of bluffing and orders his men to kill Nick. Walker and Crazy Dog shoot more of his men. Daniel reaches the group and starts shooting. Nick flips the switch and detonates the explosives. The dam breaks apart as John and his men flee.

Walker and Crazy Dog watch Madison, Alicia and Strand struggle to escape the current created by the imploding dam. Unable to do anything to save their friends, they decide to continue north as planned.

Water bursts through the dam.

Daniel reaches Nick. They teeter on the dam bridge as water fills the valley.

In the Christmas fantasy, Madison walks through the cemetery and stops at Jeremiah’s grave. A hand shoots out and pulls her into the grave.

Madison plunges into the water.

In the fantasy, Travis pulls Madison out of the grave, but she slips back in.

Madison sinks underwater then opens her eyes. She kicks to the surface and sees bodies all around her. She swims to the river bed and sees people flocking to the shore, filling containers with water released from the dam.
