- "You killed them! YOU KILLED THEM!!"
- —Sam yelling at Andrea.[src]
Sam is a character first encountered in Issue 38 of Image Comics' The Walking Dead. He is a resident of Woodbury. Sam is character also featured in The Walking Dead: The Fall of the Governor where he is called "Curtis" during the shootout. He served as the tertiary antagonist of Volume 7: The Calm Before
Nothing is known about Sam's life before the or as the outbreak began. He may have lived in or near Woodbury, Georgia.
Sam was a member of a four-man squad led by Bruce Cooper that were sent to sweep the parking lot of the Wal-Mart near Woodbury, Georgia, due to the nearby National Guard Tower being blown up by the prison survivors.
Bruce split his four-man team into two, with Sam accompanying him and two unnamed men investigating the vehicles in the car-park nearby. Bruce and Sam discovered the survivors present within the abandoned Wal-Mart. Bruce had ordered them to come out, which resulted in Glenn coming alone and being promptly shot by Bruce. In response, Andrea shot Bruce through the throat and Michonne sneaked up and mutilated the two other men.
Sam witnessed the deaths of his three companions and despite Andrea ordering him to lower his gun, he instead cried out in an outburst, screaming "You killed them... YOU KILLED THEM!", before raising his gun to shoot Andrea.
Sam was promptly killed when Andrea shot him in the head before he had time to fire his own gun, even though Sam had the chance to surrender.
This list shows the victims Sam has killed:
- Possibly numerous counts of zombies and unnamed people.
It is presumed that Bruce and Sam were friends, due to Sam's outburst after Andrea shot him, but, it is possible he was just panicking after seeing people being killed in front of him.
- Issue 43 (Corpse)
- Sam is called "Curtis" during the Walmart shootout in The Walking Dead: The Fall of the Governor. This was most likely an error.
