Almost nothing is known about Rachel before or as the outbreak began, except that she knew Wayne Dunlap.

Rachel was mentioned once by Rick to Glenn, Andrea, Jacqui, T-Dog, and Morales. Dunlap had a picture from Rachel in his pocket. Rick took out the photo and turned it over, read the caption "'With love, from Rachel.'"
