Almost nothing is known about Mike's life before or as the outbreak began, apart from being Michonne's boyfriend and the best friend of Terry.
Mike and his best friend, Terry, stayed in a small house and later met up with Michonne. When a zombie attempted to force it's way through the door, Mike was bitten. He later died and reanimated, biting Terry as well, causing him to reanimate as well. Michonne discovered them, cutting off their arms and jaws, and chaining them. She used them as protection from other zombies, their scent camouflaging her. They were later killed by Michonne to gain entry into the prison.

Michonne and Mike were boyfriend and girlfriend. Since Michonne chose to talk to him after he was dead to help her cope with her situation, it can be inferred they had a stable relationship and cared for each other.
