One day in, Johnny criticizes the Augusta State Jaguar's football team, the team from the city in which Dean Gorman is originally from. This angers Dean and a violent fight ensues. Martínez arrives on the scene and tries to break it up, but they won't listen. Dean starts winning at the beginning of the fight by jamming his steel toed boots into Johnny's sides, but Johnny gains the upper hand when he knees Dean in the groin. He then proceeds to climb ontop of him and punch Dean in the face multiple times. Martínez once again tries to interrupt it, but the Governor, seeing how a crowd of bored residents has formed and are entertained by the scene, tells him to wait. By this point, Johnny had started to strangle Dean and won't let go. This excites the crowd of bystanders. Dean's eyes soon begin to roll back in his head and he collapses. The Governor then allows Martínez to break it up which he does. Their fight inspires the Governor to create the arena, with the National Guardsmen as the fighters.
