I wanted something to fight with, a weapon like you and Rosita have.
―Gracie to Judith about wanting to find a weapon to help fight.[src]

Gracie is a survivor of the outbreak in AMC's The Walking Dead. She is the daughter of a Savior. After the death of her father and the end of the war between the Militia and the Saviors, she is adopted by Aaron and resides with him at the Alexandria Safe-Zone.

Overview[]

Gracie is first found by Rick Grimes after he kills her father in hopes of getting to a weapons room. After he realizes he just killed her father, Rick is immediately filled with guilt. He takes Gracie out of the outpost where she is adopted by Aaron.

Six years after Rick's disappearance, Gracie is shown to be a kind, friendly, and innocent girl. She is shown to get along with the rest of the kids, especially Judith who is her best friend. After Judith and Carl's keepsake is broken, she is the first to offer to help fix it. Compared to Judith, Gracie is a less experienced survivor, though she wants to be more useful. At one point she states she wishes she was as brave as Judith. She shows her naivety when she tries to find a weapon in the basement despite it flooding, which ends up trapping both her and Judith.

Aaron is shown to greatly care for his daughter, even having a nightmare where he loses her. When she and Judith get trapped in a basement, he is shown to be willing to risk his life for her and jumps into the water infested basement with no hesitation.

It's unknown what became of her mother, but her father was able to take care of her for those 5 months. The Saviors doted upon Gracie and furnished her own bedroom, and their leader Negan Smith came to meet Gracie.

After winning, Gracie high fives her dad with her handmade fake prosthetic and asks for a story as her prize. She listens as Aaron says he once went hiking with a man he loved in Eureka, California. She asks for the ancient villagers' whereabouts but Aaron doesn't know what happened to them.

"Walk With Us"

The Whisperers attack the Hilltop Colony with their horde and flaming arrows - setting fire to the Colony. Ezekiel began to lead the children out of Hilltop - including Gracie - but could not locate Judith. Earl Sutton was able to locate Judith and took charge of Gracie and the other children while Ezekiel fought at the Hilltop.

Earl brought Gracie and the other children to a safe-house in the woods awaiting for their parents while he continued to suffer from the bite from a walker on his arm. He refilled Gracie's water cup and told her that she was brave and her father would be proud of her. Gracie asked when Aaron and the other parents would arrive, and he answered soon.

Judith took care of Earl in the backroom while Ezekiel led Daryl and Jerry to the children and reunited.

"Hunted"

Gracie plays cards with Judith, Hershel, and R.J. During the game of cards, Gracie's stomach growls, and Judith tells her that she is hungry, too. Gracie listens to Judith and Hershel discuss their parents going away and if they're ever afraid. Judith says she's used to it, and jokingly mimics their goodbye speech which makes Gracie laugh. Gracie wins a round of cards and proudly giggles. After the next round, Hershel wins, and Gracie is mock upset.

Later that day, the children are given horsemeat to eat. Gracie is reluctant to eat it. She listens to Hershel talk about his time on the road asks if he had eaten something like horsemeat before. He just assures her that it isn't that bad or better than spiders at least. This makes Gracie look at Judith in shock.

"Out of the Ashes"

Aaron has a nightmare in which he and Gracie get lost in the woods. Suddenly, the enemies from Aaron's past surround them, scaring Gracie and making her disappear. Aaron screams for his daughter as he's stabbed to death before waking up with a start, safe in bed, with her sleeping peacefully beside him.

Gracie wakes up when she hears a commotion and asks her father what's happening. Aaron tells her to hide in the basement, assuring himself that she is wearing her whistle before kissing her forehead goodbye.

Gracie attends a self-defense class, led by Judith, and is taught how to properly wield a sword. She soon notices that a group of teenagers is harassing a child walker through a gap in the fence. Her concern alerts Judith, who confronts them on the danger. Gracie witnesses Vincent bully Judith, and Judith retaliate by raising a sword to his throat. Gracie intervenes, and Judith listens to her, lowering her sword. Gracie glares at Vincent for calling Judith names and follows her friend back to the other kids.

Later that day, Gracie is in Michonne's house and playing a game with R.J. They are interrupted when Judith accuses Vincent of breaking her and Carl's keepsake. Gracie comes over and offers to help Judith put it back together, making Judith smile.

"For Blood"

As a storm rages in Alexandria, Gracie is terrified and hugs Judith and R.J.

When Aaron tells Gracie that he is going out into the storm, Gracie is upset that her father is risking his life and questions why it has to be him that goes. He explains to her that it would be unfair of him to ask someone to do something dangerous if he wasn't willing to do it himself, and asks her to understand. Judith comes over and offers to stay with Gracie, making her feel a little better. Aaron expresses gratitude to her friend and kisses Gracie's forehead goodbye.

Later, Gracie admits to Judith that she wishes she were more like her because she's never afraid. Judith disagrees with Gracie about being unafraid and explains that she was taught to turn her fear into strength, and Gracie can, too. This encouragement cheers Gracie up, and she practices her swordplay with Judith's katana. When Gracie gets a little too close to a window, her jacket is grabbed by a walker. She drops the katana in shock, and Judith races over to slice it's arm off before killing it. Gracie hugs Virgil as she watches the adults board the windows.

A second walker breach almost breaks down Gracie's door. Rosita decides to go out into the storm to fight all the walkers in the yard and give them more time. Gracie watches her fight in admiration.

Inspired by Judith and Rosita, Gracie is determined to help fight and she looks for a weapon in her basement, which is now flooding. Judith follows after her and questions why Gracie is down there before helping her look. Judith breaks off a broomstick and hands it to Gracie, insisting that they have to hurry back. However, when they race upstairs, they are confronted by a house full of walkers and are forced back into the flooding basement. The two cling to each other as they look between the door and rising water.

"No Other Way"

Gracie and Judith attempt to barricade the door with a shovel, and retreat further into the basement when the herd of walkers break down the door.

While Gracie and Judith stand on a table to escape the walkers, and rising water, Gracie blows on her emergency whistle to alert help. Gracie begins to look around for objects that might help them escape but is grabbed by a walker when her back is turned. Judith saves her by killing the walkers but accidently drops her sword in the struggle, and is forced to kick them away instead. Gracie's father hears the commotion and breaks the glass to gather the walkers' attention away from the children and jumps inside to slay the walkers. Aaron orders Gracie and Judith to get to the window so he can lift them out and they can get to safety.

The next day, Gracie and Aaron are seen greeting the group returning from Meridian with a cart full of food, but are interrupted by Jerry when he announces the arrival of an approaching group.

Gracie is seen standing next to her father as she listens to Lance Hornsby address the residents of Alexandria.

"Lockdown"

Gracie is at Daryl's apartment coloring at the kitchen table with Judith and RJ. While Carol cooks the children pancakes for breakfast, Judith asks when Gracie's father and Daryl will be back. Carol jokingly questions if the reason that she wants him back so soon is that Daryl's cooking is better, Judith assures her that it isn't and Daryl is only a good cook when there's a campfire. Gracie hears this and says that her father is "a great cook wherever he is," Carol and Judith smile at this and Carol tells the two girls that Daryl and Aaron will be back soon. When Carol spots Calhoun and Shira on their way to their apartment, she orders the kids to stay quiet and hide until the pair of intruders leave.

As Carol attempts to bring the kids somewhere else for safety, they are ordered into the bedroom when someone approaches their door, though it is only Jerry and Negan.

Gracie then accompanies Jerry and the Grimes children to an attic space being used as a rendezvous. They are forced to flee through a crowd of people outside when Calhoun and Shira spot them, though fortunately, a group of Alexandrians and Hilltoppers were able to assist Jerry in blocking access to them. After successfully hiding from Calhoun on a fire escape, Gracie, RJ, and Judith hide in the attic space until it is safe to come out.

"A New Deal"

Gracie is seen sharing a tearful goodbye with her father when he leaves to check up on Oceanside and fills them in on a plan. Aaron kisses her head and promises that he'll see her soon. Judith comes over and comforts Gracie with a hug as the two watch the wagon leave.

"What's Been Lost"

While unseen, Gracie is abducted on Pamela Milton's orders, alongside the other children and almost every other Alexandria, Hilltop and Riverbend resident living at the Commonwealth.

"Family"

Following revolution to take back Alexandria from the Commonwealth, the children are reunited with the group.

The next day, Gracie is seen smiling and talking to Ezekiel, Nabila and Aliyah. Gracie is seen staying in Alexandria with Nabila, Aliyah, Ezra, Hershel, and R.J. when the group returns to the Commonwealth to overthrow it.

"Rest in Peace"

One year after the revolution at The Commonwealth, Gracie is seen still living at the Alexandria-Safe-Zone with her father Aaron.
