This article is about the Smith & Wesson Model 36. You may be looking for other similar named Smith & Wesson firearms.

The Smith & Wesson Model 36 is a revolver chambered for .38 Special. It is one of several models of "J-frame" Smith & Wesson revolvers. It was introduced in 1950, and is still in production.

Pre-Apocalypse[]

The Model 36 was designed in the era just after World War II, when Smith & Wesson stopped producing war materials and resumed normal production. For the Model 36, they sought to design a weapon that could fire the more powerful .38 Special round in a small, concealable package. Since the older I-frame was not able to handle this load, a new frame was designed, which became the Smith & Wesson J-frame.

Post-Apocalypse[]

Original TV Series[]

Several survivors use the Model 36 including Hershel and Beth Greene, Noris and Aaron.

After his failure to get the Hilltop and Oceanside to agree to a deal with the Commonwealth, Lance Hornsby lets out his frustrations by drawing in a small herd and then shooting all of the walkers with a Model 36. Lance is later carrying the gun while he chases after the Coalition forces. After Daryl steals his car, Lance shoots at Daryl, but he fails to stop him.

Fear the Walking Dead[]

Nora is armed with a Model 36 when Dwight and Al first encounter her in the Creative Visionaries Agency building. Nora uses it to put down several of the zombified office workers before running out of bullets. Nora later aims it at Dwight, accidentally mistaking him for a hostile, when he opens the door of a truck that she and the rest of her people were hiding in.

Telltale Series[]

Clementine allows AJ to be armed with a Smith & Wesson Model 36, although by the time that they find the train station, the gun is out of bullets and AJ annoys Clementine by repeatedly spinning the cylinder. Inside of the train station, AJ finds two bullets for the gun amongst the supplies.

After Clementine disappears while investigating a disturbance, AJ threatens Marlon at gunpoint for answers. Attempting to frame Clementine for Brody's murder, Marlon snatches the gun from AJ and waves it around, threatening to kill Clementine with it and frightening his friends. Clementine eventually manages to overpower and disarm Marlon, but before anything can be decided about his fate, AJ grabs his gun and shoots Marlon through the head from behind, killing him. When everyone stares at him in shock, AJ simply states that he'd saved a bullet for himself. Clementine subsequently allows AJ to keep the gun, much to the disgust of Louis who views AJ as a murderer who was allowed to keep his murder weapon. When Clementine and AJ are exiled from Ericson's Boarding School, Louis demands that AJ hand over the gun to him which Clementine can agree with or allow AJ to keep it. If AJ turned over his gun, Louis returns it to him before they part ways.

Shortly thereafter, Clementine and AJ are attacked by Abel and Lilly and Abel takes the gun from AJ and keeps it. Following the attack on the school and the capture of Abel, AJ gets his gun back and plays with it as he stands guard over Abel. If Clementine goes to perform the requested mercy killing upon the dying Abel, she goes to use the gun, but Abel requests for her not to so that he can keep his face. Instead, Clementine kills Abel by stabbing him in the head with her knife.

During the raid on the S.S. Stewarts Fitzgerald, AJ has the gun taken away from him again for a final time and he doesn't retrieve it before the boat's destroyed. Instead, AJ later arms himself with a SIG-Sauer P250 Compact taken from Minerva.
