Crawford is a district within the city of Savannah and the main location in "Around Every Corner" of The Walking Dead: The Telltale Series. After the outbreak, it is converted into a home for a group of survivors who go to extreme measures to ensure their own safety.

Pre-Apocalypse[]

Savannah, Georgia[]

Crawford Square was built and named in the year 1841 in honor of William Harris Crawford, the Secretary of the Treasury who ran for president in 1842. When the infamous Jim Crow laws were put into effect, it was the only square in Savannah that allowed African Americans in it. It is the smallest official Square in Savannah, containing playgrounds, basketball courts, a gazebo and other facilities.[1]

Post-Apocalypse[]

When the outbreak struck, a large number of presumably local Savannah residents led by a man named Crawford Oberson walled in the Square and surrounding neighborhoods to form a survivor community. Crawford's leadership enforced strict rules upon its residents in an attempt to optimize itself and save its limited resources, allowing only those who could carry their own weight to join. No elderly or children under the age of 14 were permitted in without special permission, and anybody with an advanced medical condition was required to disclose it, though this would have likely resulted in exile soon afterwards anyway; child bearing was also forbidden. Food was rationed to its citizens, and signs were posted around Crawford telling them to use their rations wisely.

The community utilized a former garage within their walls to store its gas and multiple signs were placed around the area warning any looters they would be shot without hesitation. Crawford's defenses consisted of a arrangement of chain-link fences and wooden barricades to keep walkers out. The community also set up a system of communication called "Crawford's Final Solution", in which their citizens who left Crawford to look for supplies would write down their initials, the days it had been since the outbreak began, the number of walkers they killed, the number of citizens they found and recruited, and the number of ineligible citizens that they found. Eventually, after completely stripping Savannah of almost all of its supplies and resources, Crawford became closed off, allowing no other survivors in.

On October 10, 2003, after around three to four months following the beginning of the apocalypse, an incident involving a female resident of Crawford sent the community into disarray. Though exactly how Crawford became overrun is never confirmed, it is likely that the previously mentioned female resident was the main cause. After being provoked by one of the community's doctors, she stabbed him and stole his firearm, then proceeded to launch a suicidal rampage on her fellow residents, gunning down as many people as possible. The Crawford residents killed during the rampage reanimating, combined with the walkers outside the walls who were likely drawn by the gunfire, overran the community.

The majority of residents likely tried to flee, and the community was lost once the last citizens attempting to hold out were killed, or gave up and deserted like the rest. It is unlikely many people survived Crawford's fall and were able to flee outwards into the rest of Savannah, as Molly was not able to notice that anything had actually gone wrong with the community, despite still being in the city. Oberson himself was hung from the bell tower and left to reanimate; whether he committed suicide or was executed by his own citizens during the fall is unknown.

Season One[]

"Around Every Corner"[]

Lee and his group, as well as Vernon and Brie went to Crawford in search of medical supplies for Omid and batteries and gas for the boat. They find the community overrun with walkers and quietly head of the high school in search for the supplies.

Once the group gets the supplies they need, they are overrun at the school with walkers and barely escape through the roof before making it out of Crawford and back at the house where they are able to treat Omid.

"No Time Left"[]

As Lee and whoever came with him get to the roof of the hospital, Lee is able to see the bell tower of Crawford. Christa then says, after looking at the walker-infested streets, that Crawford was able to do one thing right. (Determinant)

Season Two[]

"In Harm's Way"[]

Kenny briefly mentions Crawford when discussing how to escape from Howe's Hardware. He recounts how "There was a girl back at Crawford," referring to Molly, who used church bells to draw walkers in Savannah.

Trivia[]

  • Crawford bears a resemblance to the Kingdom and the Sanctuary in the Comic Series, respectively, by being a school and having walkers that are impaled on poles while still "alive".
    • It can also be similar to Woodbury, since most of their residents are deceased.
  • Unlike most sanctuaries within The Walking Dead franchise, this haven only lasted around two and a half months, despite (or perhaps because of) the staggering amount of people residing there.
  • Crawford is one of seven communities in the game, the others being Wellington, Howe's Hardware, Monroe, Prescott, New Richmond, and Ericson's Boarding School.
    • As well as being one of four antagonist communities in the game the others being Howe's Hardware, Monroe and New Richmond.
  • The markings from "Crawford's Final Solution" bear a strong resemblance to real-life markings used by FEMA for urban search and rescue.[2]
