Trying to get this out on my lunch break, so I’m gonna speed through this one. Here goes.
Season 8’s tenth episode actually came off as a lukewarm to pretty solid episode for me. After a messy first half to the season, I’m very welcoming for any episode where the quality feels stable, and there’s a couple scenes here that I really liked.
The Negan/Simon argument is a dynamic that has been building for a while, and adds an interesting struggle-for-power element in the Saviors’ side of the war. I’m interested to see where this goes. I think a direct Negan vs Simon fight would be really thrilling to watch.
I didn’t see the point of the character name card openings AT ALL. We switch viewpoints between characters every episode, why label them now? Just to be different? I just didn’t see any point in it.
The trash people language is still cringy as all hell. At least it was partially faked, and we won’t be hearing from them anymore. (And btw look back at my pre-season predictions, I saw the Saviors killing trash people thing coming).
The car-door shields are a creative concept that I’d like to see more of in the shows future. However, there’s no way Rick would’ve immediately killed all those Walkers with that one spike when he can’t even see past the shield.
All the scenes with Jadis are actually pretty good. They’re finally taking here character in a direction that somewhat interests me. Just please, AMC, PLEASE don’t turn her into Alpha. Alpha would be much more intimidating as a new character.
The conversation on the radio between Rick and Negan is my favorite of the whole episode. I loved JDM’s show of emotion toward Carl’s death, as well as the strange dynamic these two foes share after Carl’s loss.
Final Rating: 7.5/10. Cook up them sloppy joes, Jadis.
